Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this lens appropriate for emount aps c cameras?

A: You can use this on full frame or crop sensor Sony E-mount cameras.

Q: 2. Not mentioned in description: which size of rear filter should be concretely?

A: The rear filter holder is a gel filter holder and is specific to the lens. Gel filters typically come in and 3x3 and 4x4 inch sizes and are mostly manufactured by Kodak. These filters are very thin, flexible sheets and easily cut to the size the holder will accept.

Q: 3. Will Brightness Monitoring work with this lens?

A: Yes, Brightness Monitoring will work with Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E.

Q: 4. Warranty

A: The warranty on a Sigma lens is valid for 4 years in the US.

Q: 5. Will this work on Sony APS-C?

A: This lens can work on a Sony E-mount camera with an APS-C sensor. There will be a crop factor of 1.5x applied to the focal length of the lens.

Q: 6. Does this frame have enough depth to hold a photopolymer plate?

A: The Photographers' Formulary Select Contact Print Frame (11 x 14") is for making contact prints in the darkroom. The back presses tight to the glass to hold the negatives flat against the front glass. If the photopolymer plate has more depth than a sheet of darkroom paper, it will not fit.

Q: 7. This is exactly what the 100 mm filters will not cover this lens only 150 mm (with lens diameter 85 mm)? And will the image quality degrade when used behind a gel filter, such as ND 3.0?

A: This lens requires a dedicated filter holder--several manufacturers make dedicated holders for this lens for 150mm filters. All filters will degrade the image to some degree, but it won't be visible with better filters. There would likely be a small degree of image degradation with a 3.0 (10-stop) ND filter.

Q: 8. Looking to frame an 8 x10 Paper Tole project plus a Matte, would this be the right size frame? Does it come with a Matte? If so what colour?

A: It comes with the matting. Camel white.

Q: 9. I just purchased this lens for real estate video and am noticing significant distortion when panning, even at the tightest focal length of 24mm. Is this normal?

A: If the distortion you see is greater in the corners and less in the center that is normal in a wide lens. That is perspective distortion. There is perspective distortion even without a camera, just with our regular eyes. If you go to the bottom of a large building and look up the sides of the building will look like they are converging when in fact they are parallel. That is the same type of perspective distortion you get with a very wide lens in the corners. Regarding panning a distortion you may see is called the jello effect or also rolling shutter. That is because the camera does not read the whole image at once, but reads it up and down line by line. That is not related to the lens though but the camera. Rolling shutter distortion is greater when panning fast. There is less rolling shutter distortion when you pan slowly.

Q: 10. is there a way for this lens to accommodate a circular polarizing filter?

A: The NiSi S6 150mm Filter Holder Kit with Pro CPL for Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens (Sony E/Leica L) fits the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E and includes a circular polarizing filter. You could also add two 150mm wide ND filters.
