Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I develop this film with kodak t-max developer?

A: You can process Kentmere Pan 400 Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) in T-Max developer.

Q: 2. Can this film be possessed like a c-41 film

A: NO. it is a Black and white film, and requires B&W processing. Running it through C-41 will result in a blank strip, with possible loose emulsion. Ilford XP2 is a special film to give B&W negatives while using a C-41 process.

Q: 3. Does this film work well with Kodak D-76, or should I use different chemistry?

A: You may develop this film with Kodak D-76.

Q: 4. What is the expiration date?

A: The exp date is typically 1 year out.

Q: 5. What is this used for and how?

A: This 100' roll of ISO 400 B&W film is made to be used in a bulk film loader - B&H # LE63000 - along with 35mm film cassettes - BH #KACP35 - to roll your own rolls of film. There is a significant price savings. You can get about 18 36 exposure rolls out of 100'. Ignoring the start up cost of the loader, and the often reusable cassettes, that prices out to $2.77/roll. That same 36 exposure film packed regular, is $4.29. In addition to the saving, you can roll short rolls. Want 10 exposures, you got it, 21 exposures , you got it. see chart for calculating frames per roll length: http://www.rogerandfrances.com/photoschool/ps%20how%20load%20bulk.html

Q: 6. Hi. What security measures are taken in the shipping, thinking that the x-rays of the airport and customs can damage the film?

A: The Foma Fomapan 400 Action Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 100' Roll) is wrapped in bubble wrap and placed inside a brown shipping box. Unfortunately, the X Ray at the airport can damage the film. Unfortunately, there is no way for B&H to prevent that.

Q: 7. What are the times for Marathon (bulk film developer)?

A: Unfortunately Kentmere does not list a developing time for Marathon developer. Here is a link to the developers, times and temperatures they do recommend for their film:http://bit.ly/1ccdsJv

Q: 8. About how many rolls of 24 exposure would this cover?

A: If you roll it perfect you can get 20. I usually figure between 18 - 20.

Q: 9. Is their a film this is chemically similar to, so I can know how long to develop?

A: Other ISO 400 films will react in a similar manner to Flic Film UltraPan 400 (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures)--you should check the developer you use for a development times table.

Q: 10. Is this process C-41?

A: The Ilford Delta 400 film would be developed with black and white chemistry. An easy way to get started is with the Paterson Film Processing Starter Kit, BH # PAPTP574U, which includes the basic materials to develop this film. https://bhpho.to/37uIjlG

I shot a roll around my grandfather's shop in natural light, pushed it up to 800, and processed it in Clayton's developer. I loved the detail and soft contrast from this stock and decided to add a few more rolls to my hoard.

Sure it might be slightly more grainy than you want, or flatter than other films, but it’s cheaper and easy to develop and use. Doesn’t have the exposure altitude or sharpness of HP5 but that’s a few dollars more and when buying in bulk I always go here. In the darkroom I use contrast filters or just slide the bar when editing digitally, it’s no problem at all. And the grain can make the images feel warm and fuzzy. Highly recommend to anyone who is tired of paying top price for Kodak or Ilford films. Trust me, you aren’t too good for this.

For the price you can't go wrong I use it for all types of photography.

Definitely one of the absolute best black and white films. So far it's the absolute cheapest and easiest to develop. Good latitude, really good sharpness moderate grain. Shoots really flat. This gives you room to really deepen shadows in post. B&H always has this film on hand at the best price!!!

Kentmere 400's grain structure looks very similar to HP5. Like HP5, Kentmere 400 has oodles of exposure latitude at box speed, and a decent amount of latitude sticks around all the way up to ISO 1600. But, this is NOT HP5 but cheaper. Not even close. Developed in DD-X at box speed, Kentmere 400 produces noticeably thinner negatives than HP5. It has a lot of exposure latitude, but not as much as HP5. The biggest difference is acutance - Kentmere lags very far behind HP5 in sharpness (and Delta blows both of them out of the water). If you're regularly printing at 8x10 or larger, Kentmere probably isn't for you. But, if most of your photos are going straight from the development tank to Instagram, Kentmere won't give you any trouble. For the money, Kentmere 400 is a really strong performer. If you're new to black and white, at-home development, or you're new to film photography in general, Kentmere is a great place to start. Kentmere 400 certainly has found a place in my arsenal.

Purchased as a means to test Kentmere Pan 400 before buying a 100' roll for bulk loading. I prefer Ilford HP5 over the Kentmere, but its good to have 100' rolls of both and shoot either when I'm in the mood.

Appears very similar to HP5+. Good tones and contrast. Excellent bang for the buck. FYI, your system wouldn't allow an image upload.

In a day and age where film is getting more pricier, kentmere has been a a great value for its price point. It is reliable and I have created prints from this film. A

Kentmere 400 is a great general-purpose film. It pushes well and is easy to work with in the darkroom.
