Today's larger imaging sensors require more light, and with the Alpine Astronomical Baader M54 Extension Tube, you get it. Unlike the smaller, more common T-2 size, the larger M48 provides significantly more light throughput, and its 40mm optical length allows you to adjust the working distance to put the focal point exactly where you want it. You can use this tube by itself or stacked with other tubes. The tube is made of anodized aluminum and outfitted with machined external (male) threads on one side and internal (female) threads on the other.

Q: 1. Is this extension tube compatible with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens (not the L series)? I'll be using it on a Canon 5D Mark III

A: Yes it is. Actually I also own a Canon 100mm Macro no L series too and I use two extension tubes with it. However you might sacrifice a little bit of sharpness when using two of them, and the depth of view is very shallow at 2.8, so you may have to shoot at very small appertures to have a better depth of view. And with this, you'll have to use a flash gun to iluminate the subject, but here is one tip: if you already own a 430 EX, 580EX or any othe flashgun, just attach a piece of white blank paper at it to bounce the light from above. This creates enough light to expose the subjects and very soft and defuse light making it very natural. You can check my instagram @dvl80 for some samples of macro with the settings I'm mentioning. Q: 2. Can the EF 12 extension tuube be used to connect a canon 2x extender to a canon 70mm -300mm EF lens?

A: Yes, it is physically possible to install a EF 12 extension tube between a EF 70-300 and a EF 2x extender, thus preventing the rear element of the lens from striking the front element of the extender. It is totally impractical however. The lens will only focus on a narrow range between about 20' and 50' feet, auto focus will not work - not even on my 1Dx - and the view finder is so dark that accurate manual focus is nearly impossible. I did not experiment further, but I would expect the IQ would also be unsatisfactory. Canon has made it clear that this lens is not intended for use with extenders - and they are right.

Q: 3. If I use this with the canon 100mm 2.8L lens, how much more will improve the .99’ focus distance? I ask because I read somewhere that this doesn’t allow you to focus closer but instead improves magnification.

A: An extension tube allows you to focus closer than the stated lenses minimum focus distance as well as increases the macro magnification of the subject by the size of the extension tube divided by the lens focal length.

Q: 4. Does this extension tube work with the Sigma 50-100 canon fit?

A: I do not have that Sigma lens so I am not able to confirm that the Canon Extension tube will work.

Q: 5. Will this EF 25 work well on the Canon 300mm telephoto lens?

A: It will work, but the effectiveness of an extension tube is in direct proportion to the focal length of the lens you are using it with. A 25 mm tube on a 50 mm lens is very dramatic. On a 100 mm lens it is still very noticeable but the magnification is not as extreme as with a shorter lens. I am not sure how much closer you will be able to focus with a 300 mm lens. It will change your minimum distance but I don't know if it will give you what you are looking for. You can also combine extension tubes to get closer focusing on longer lenses.

Q: 6. is this extension work with my canon 60d and lens 18-200 ?

A: The Canon Extension Tube EF 12 II is compatible with both the Canon 60D and the EF-S 18-200mm lens.

Q: 7. Can i use CANON Extension Tube EF 25 II with my Canon 1Dx Mark II, Is it safe enough.....?

A: Yes you can. Completely compatible, but you must use a canon EF lens on the front end as well. I do prefer using a true macro lens versus an extender attached to a non-macro lens.

Q: 8. Compatible with Canon SL3?

A: Yes.

Q: 9. Will this add some vignetting to my rokinon 8mm fisheye?

A: Hi--extension tubes can cause vignetting, but more commonly with telephoto lenses than with wide-angle lens. If there is vignetting, it should be slight.

Q: 10. It looks like this has metal mounts, what is the body made of ?

A: The body of the mount is made of a magnesium carbonate material, to the eye it will look similar to plastic but it has a metallic feel to it.
