The Mobius 2C 40TB 2-Bay USB 3.2 Gen 2 RAID Array from Oyen Digital features two 3.5" drive bays that each sport a Toshiba 20TB 7200 rpm Enterprise hard drive to provide a total capacity of 40TB. Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, the drives are formatted as exFAT and the array features a 10 Gb/s USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port for host connectivity as well as a second 10 Gb/s USB-C hub port with 15W of power for connecting or daisy-chaining additional peripherals.

Built with a hardware RAID controller, the Mobius 2C may be configured as RAID 0, which stripes the drives together to optimize performance, or RAID 1, which simultaneously writes data to both drives for 1:1 redundancy. Also available are JBOD, which is the default configuration and lets each drive be independently utilized as well as SPAN, which creates one large non-RAID merged drive. An integrated fan helps keep things cool and included is a USB-C to USB-C cable, a USB-C to USB-A cable, a power cord, and a key.

Please note that while the main USB-C port is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and 4, performance will be reflective of 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2. Also, the hub port is only USB compatible and will not support Thunderbolt devices.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this enclosure support 2x 10TB WD gold ?

A: Two 8tb WD defintely work. I did see a few vendors, by google, selling a 20tb version but with seagate hard drives so i assume WD wouldnt be any different but cannot verify. Manual doesn't mention max per bay capacity either.

Q: 2. Is this a shared drive that can facilitate multiple users at one time?

A: This is not a networked device. It could be accessed if the computer to which it is attached has file sharing enabled. Mac systems do allow this if you enable it and allow remote login.

Q: 3. If I want to use this to edit a Final Cut Library that is 9tb, can this be configured to work as a true single volume?

A: The Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4 16TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Portable SSD & RAID Array (2 x 8TB), BH #OY2RV4SS16T can operate on Raid 0. Both SSD drives will run as a singular drive.

Q: 4. How easy is it to swap out a drive? Are the drives attached to the trays with screws? Also, how loud is the fan?

A: The fan is very quiet. Its not very noticeable in a studio setting.

Q: 5. Does this act as a plug and play drive or does it require software on an OS? I'd like to use this for and off-site backup for my Synology NAS using EXT4 via USB.

A: Hi, it is plug and play and will be recognized as an external hard drive. There are no special drivers required. Thanks! Oyen Digital Support

Q: 6. Can this hard drive be moved between both a Mac and PC or does the drive have to be dedicated to just one computer platform?

A: The Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4 8TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Portable Hard Drive & RAID Array is compatible with both Mac and PC without a reformat.

Q: 7. Is this compatible with Mac OS Mojave v 10.14.1?

A: Yes this would be compitable with with Mac OS 10.14.1

Q: 8. Can 5 (WD Red) 6TB be used fully successfully, or is it limited to 4th drives?

A: From the manufacturer website, there is no mention of a limit on the site, nor in the manual. They sell a 40TB version which would use 8TB drives, and a 30TB version which would use 6TB drives. So, it would make sense that WD Red 6TB drives would be find. I have submitted the question to the manufacturer.

Q: 9. Can the USB-A and USB-C hub connectors in the back both be used at the same time?? Or is it just one at a time??

A: The USB A and USB C ports labeled HUB on the back of the Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4 16TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Portable SSD & RAID Array (2 x 8TB), B&H # OY2RV4SS16T, could be used at the same time. Keep in mind that these ports are just a USB hub so in order for you to use them, the USB C port labeled Main would need to be connected to the computer. You could then use the USB A or USB C ports for other USB Accessories. This would not allow you to use the drive between two computers at the same time.

Q: 10. Does this enclosure will work for making BackUps from an iMac 27-inch, late 2012, running macOS HighSierra version 10.13.1?

A: Yes, this enclosure can be used together with drives to backup a Mac running OS X 10.13.1.
