Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. On this MonoballFix version can you rotate the top clamp plate. If you can is there any alignment guide to help align the axis of the clamp exactly 0 0r 90 degrees from the rails?

A: The QR clamp on this system cannot be rotated.

Q: 2. Will this mini L-bracket fit a Nikon Z7?

A: This is designed for compact cameras. It may work with the Z7, but we suggest the Really Right Stuff L-Plate Set for Nikon Z7 and Z6 instead, B&H # REBZ7LSET. This is made specifically for the Z6 and Z7. https://bhpho.to/2HBkoo1

Q: 3. How do I attach it to my tripod?

A: We purchased this item and had the same question. Here is what we purchased to make it work, Arca-Swiss Monoball X-Table System B&H # ARMBXTS MFR # 802330, (1)Arca-Swiss SlideFix Quickset Device (1/4 , 0.6 cm)B&H # ARQR14DS MFR # 802012Arca-Swiss Cameraplate 75 for MonoballFix (75mm)B&H # ARCPMB75 MFR # 802284

Q: 4. Will this take any arca type plate (like the 3 Legged Thing QR4-EQ Quick Release Plate B&H # 3LQR4 MFR # QR4) or does it need a monoballfix camera plate?

A: An Arca-Swiss plate would be guaranteed to fit https://bhpho.to/2OB7pbP. A Arca compatible plate would most likely fit but can't be guaranteed.

Q: 5. Can I remove the top clamp and replace it with a normal classic arca swiss clamp plate?

A: While no reports of doing this have been made and we cannot test it, it is our opinion that the Arca-Swiss MonoballFix Quickset Device that is on top and which holds the quick release plate that it should be easily removable.

Q: 6. Do you stock the "Classic" version? Is there an advantage to the Microball mount?

A: I'm sorry but we do not carry the classic version, just the monoballfix. If you mean monoballfix, no there are just different mount systems and the monoball fix is only proprietary to Arca Swiss.

Q: 7. Hi there! Can you please tell me what is the maximum load of this Arca-swiss nodalset monoball fix?Thank you very much and have a nice one.

A: The monoball has a load capacity. This is just a nodal system... there is no load capacity. Put whatever you want on there.

Q: 8. What is the width of this rail? I have a Monoball P0 which can take a 32mm rail only. Is there a cheaper alternative that is 32mm wide that you can recommend?

A: The nodal set is for the PO head and is the width of that quick release system. So it should work fine on the head you have. For that head, Monoball P0 this is the only one we are aware of that will work.

Q: 9. What is the overall height of this focus rail system?

A: 8.8cm

Q: 10. Will this work with a Sony A7Cr?

A: Yes, the Arca-Swiss Monoball Fix Anti-Twist Mini L-Bracket is compatible with the Sony A7Cr. It only fits tripod heads that have a monoball fix clamp though. It does not work with classic arca clamps.

Love this ball head!!! Ok, so I have a RRS BH55 a RRS BH40 and now this ball head. The RRS55 is my tank, for my big tripod for windy days and when the mounted gear is heavier, for ultimate stablility. Problem is, its heavy and a pain to pack around when I'm hiking, carrying stuff for landscape photography. Decided to get the RRS BH40 for situations when I wanted a lighter rig. Great ballhead and light, but I like taking panos so I wanted a leveling clamp. With the RRS leveling pano clamp that I bought I level the clamp zero the level and it rotates 360. Perfect. Only problem is now I have to also pack the leveling clamp which adds additional weight and is another thing I have to carry with me. Plus its expensive. $535 with the built in pannning feature Enter this fantastic ballhead. This little beauty is much lighter, much less expensive and man, it just works. I used it for the first time on a trip to Grand Teton NP which is a setup for pano photography. I have a Gitzo travel tripod, the RRS multirow panning system which is quite heavy. I used a Canon 5DMKIII with a 16-35 lens with this ballhead and couldn't have been happier. Quite frankly, it works as well if not better than my Big RRS BH-55 rig, plus it's tons lighter for travel. I will sell my RRS BH-40 and just use this ballhead for now. Oh, one important thing. the Arca swiss quick release system is not compatible with the RRS and most standard L plates. If you have these than you need the Sunway quick release clamp sold by BH photo video thats specific for more standard Arca Swiss plates, it's only like 39 bucks, works great and doesn't add much weight. It's a bit finnicky at first to get used to, but man, it just works great. I tend to be a bit of a clutz and am hard on my equipment. I love this ballhead, super light, easy to use and very, very reasonably priced for the quality. Remember, most important, the very unique feature of this ballhead: once its leveled, 360 pano!!

Part II

When I first read about this unique ball head from Arca Swiss, I lusted after one. Arca Swiss has placed its smooth, aspherical ball at its bottom and panning above, enabling effective camera leveling without having to tediously level the tripod. It utilizes only two quick and easily identifiable controls which strikes me as the ultimate in simplicity and smooth, intelligent operation without having to give momentary mental energy to deciding ‘now, which knob does what?’ when the light on my subject is shifting by the second.

The Arca Swiss architecture makes leveling the camera an effortless task, requiring nearly no time, nor attention, when preparing for video or still panning.

So this head would be the obvious choice for a kit specially designed for iPhone photography by a photographer who would prefer as few needless distractions from capturing an ephemeral image as possible.

Given that this head would be topped off by a smartphone adaptor, another attraction of the Arca Swiss is its precise slot for 90˚ orientation—perfect for smoothly and effortlessly switching from horizontal to vertical image orientation (or vice versa) with supreme control and without a lot of flopping or fiddling corrections. Perfect for my Aries wife’s birthday!

This is an excellent, but very different sort of ball head. In comparison with my other ball head, a Markin Q3, I find the P0 easier to use under most circumstances. Since the locking ring wraps around the ball head, its always 'in the same place', whereas on a conventional design this isn't inherently so, and if the drop notch is used, it might have to be sitting in some awkward position. The flip side is that to move the drop notch from the location need for a portrait position to the location needed for high or low elevations also requires panning the head, and I find this less intuitive on the P0. I suspect this is just a matter of needing more time to become accustomed to it. I also find I rarely need to actually do this, and so its a minor disadvantage compared with the major advantages the design does have. It should be noted that there is no separate friction control. This doesn't bother me, but I would assume that for heavy camera setups that might be more of a concern.

I was worried that the packaged box was slightly damaged, but there was no problem with the stuff.
It has a very good performance, as it is known for, and I liked the very sturdy structure.
Hasselblad x1d ii +35-75 is fixed easily. very good

This Monorail is strong enough to hold a medium format body. Strong and light weight.

This is very different than any other bullhead you will use. I love the twist lock vs the traditional knobs. Once you get used to the motion, it's quick to adjust and rock solid.

This is the best option for a ball head if you shoot panoramic's. It negates the need for a leveling base on your tripod. The lockup is convenient and solid. It weighs less than a pound even after an Arca clamp of your choosing is installed. I installed a SS 3/8 x 1-1/2 fender washer between the P0 and Arca clamp so that the clamp knob would clear the Panning knob on the P0. Highly recommended.....

The action is not the smoothest but works well enough. It is very light and compact but more than strong enough to hold a D3s with a 300/4 on and a Z7ii with the 50/1.2 with the body mounted on the head. I think it will work well on a monopod as well.

It does need an arca Swiss mount on it. I tried to save weight by using the 1/4" mount directly and it is very clumsy.

I was shown this item by one of the in-store camera support sales people, Daniel. He was terrific in helping sort out some options to improve my macrophotography (kudos to B&H on service). I don't think I would have been aware of it otherwise.

I bought it for macro photography; I found using a regular ballhead to be too imprecise. This combination of ball head and gear head solves a lot of my framing problems quickly, effectively, and precisely.

Even on landscapes, though, it has proven its worth, enabling me to make small, precise adjustments quickly and easily. Very nice.

The price for this ballhead is pretty heart-stopping, I will give you that. And it's so weird-looking, I almost rejected it out of hand. That said, this is a first-rate piece of gear.

Recommended.

The first actual Arca-Swiss ball head I bought was the p0.  While it is a great little head, it was lacking something.  After a lot of thought I bit the bullet and got the p0 Hybrid.  What a difference!  The gearing works perfectly.   That made me happy enough.  But, that was not all.  I found out that when you loosen the entire head with the large ring, there is still tension.  If you are using a Fuji mirrorless camera with most lenses you can move the camera but it does not move on it’s own.  I would think the aspheric head contributes to this.  In any event, clearly the best ball head I’ve ever had.
