Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you mount casters onto the legs so you can roll the stand around? If so, what size attachment?

A: There are a few C-stands that have wheels as an option, but not this one. However, you could construct a plywood platform and attach wheels to it. Just be sure to figure a way to keep the stand on the platform and balanced. Sands bags are a must when using C-stands for most uses.

Q: 2. Can this double as Dana Dolly rails?

A: The Matthews 1 1/2" Grip Rail (Long, 41-72") is not made to work as rails for the Dana Dolly,

Q: 3. Looking for an outdoor C stand. I own a bunch of the impact turtle base kits, (Impact Turtle Base C-Stand Kit (10.75', Chrome) BH #IMLSCT40MK ), but this Matthews Cstand seems better than the impact sliding leg version, since the Matthews bottom legs are all one piece for sliding leg outdoors. would the impact grip heads/accessories fit on the matthews c stands?

A: Yes, the Impact grip heads and grip arms are compatible with other C-stands from Matthews.

Q: 4. Can this be used with the Menace Arm kit? If so, can a traditional coupler connect two rails for extra reach as a Menace Arm?

A: The Matthews 1 1/4" Grip Rail (Long, 41-72") is the one you want to get if you need to use with a Menace arm kit as the standard width for Menace Arm kits is 1 1/4". Any 1 1/4" Schedule 40 Coupler will work as an extender but please consult a Grip/Gaffer about proper counterweights when rigging an extension of this size.

Q: 5. I'm going to be using this for a DSLR camera mount for overhead photography. Does anyone have any recomendations for the best piece to use for mounting the camera to the arm?

A: There are several solutions that are available but it depends on budget and features needed. If you want to have the ability to adjust the pan and tilt of the Camera you will have to mount an adjustable head on the 5/8 stud on the C Stand. You can do this with something as simple as a double mafer clamp and a 3/8 rod screwed into the bottom of the head.

Q: 6. Would this one be more or less sturdy than the one with the low profile base or not any different? I don't need to put the legs under furniture etc

A: I have mine set up with sand bags and a boom for hair lighting and often use it to hold a large softbox. I find no reason to go with a low profile base even in the small bedroom I shoot in sometimes.

Q: 7. Does this come with to gobo's

A: Yes, one off the main stand and one on the extended arm.

Q: 8. Can a strobe attach to this pin and this Grip Head attach to an extension arm of a C stand?

A: This 4-1/2" grip head is designed to mount into the Junior Receiver of a Combo stand or an Overhead Rolling Stand. You will want to use a 6" Pin With Collar (PN: 429599) to mount your strobe and a 2.1/5" Grip Head (PN: 350580) to mount onto the Extension Arm of the C-Stand.

Q: 9. Does this fit with a c-stand?

A: No it is tow large to fit the pin

Q: 10. Is the entire leg assembly removable so that two stands can be fit easily into the Sachtler C-Stand Bag B&H SACSTANDB MFR #SL2001?

A: They fold up and align together. They are not removable but I've found this is the best stand for transport. I can get 8 in the back seat floor area in my BMW 535. Great stand!

I already wrote a long review of how great these are as tools. Literally the best for in-studio use. Check the other review.

I have a lot of conventional stands, but as I turned more into Pro assignments, they would not stand up to the task. Finally, broke down and ordered a Matthews Hollywood Century C Stand after watching Joe McNally on Kelby One using this stand. My new goal is to replace all my other stands with C stands. Strong, durable and most of all steady.

This is a sturdy and stable c-stand, professional grade and it hasn't given me any trouble so far. I would recommend it to other photographers.

This is a very well made, very heavy-duty piece of equipment that I expect will last forever. I am very impressed with the quality of this stand. It's a bit heavy, but that's because a lot of the parts are solid metal, not hollow. I plan to buy several more of these stands.

This well constructed high quality stand is durable, solid, versatile and exceeds our needs. We're still discovering the many uses and situations where we can implement it.

Matthews has always been on top for quality and function in my experience. These C-Stands are sturdy, simple, and functional. Easy to recommend to anyone. Pay the few dollars more (literally, just a few dollars) to get stands you won't have to replace.

This is a great c-stand and it is built to last. I already had one of these stands and I was on the verge of buying a slightly larger impact stand, but I got to use one on set and the grip head kept sticking and we had to use tools to unstick them several times. I’ve never had that issue with my Matthews stand. After that it was a pretty easy decision to stick with Matthews. The only thing I don’t like is that don’t have more of them.
