Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be attached to a light stand?

A: yes it can

Q: 2. C-stand knuckle

A: This would require a knuckle to attach it to a c stand. Here's an option B&H # IMKCP200B.

Q: 3. Is there any way I could mount this onto a boom stand with a 5/8 male thread? Maybe an adapter? If anybody knows please let me know.

A: Yes with a C stand Knuckle, something every cinematographer should have in the kit. Just make sure the boom pole and Mic don't get too front heavy, if so sandbag the stand to stabilize it. Better yet use a century stand rather than a lightweight light stand.

Q: 4. Would this work with a rode shotgun microphone?

A: This combination is great to hold a microphone boom pole that you could the attach a shock mount to and thus a rode shotgun to that. It would not work to hold the shotgun by itself.

Q: 5. Would the INV-4 be the ideal shock mount size for the Audix 1250BHC?

A: Audix recommends their SMT-MICRO Shock Mount Stand Adapter (B&H# AUSMTMICRO) for use with the M1250B-HC and other Audix Micro Series microphones. Additionally, the SMT-MICRO is an item that we stock while the INV-4 is only available by special order and is not returnable.

Q: 6. Can this be attached to the Rycote Softie pistol grip?

A: The Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension can't work with the Rycote Softie Pistol Grip, because the flange is the wrong size. If you want a lyre mount with the pistol grip, check out BH #RYLMPG.

Q: 7. Is this a good choice for the Shure VP88?

A: No, the Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting is not compatible for use with the Shure VP88 Stereo Condenser Microphone. The diameter of the VP88 is 39.7mm at the front, which is the widest part, and 27mm at the cable connection, which is the narrowest part. The INV-7 accommodates microphones that have a diameter of 19 to 25mm. The VP88 already has an internal shockmount that is designed to reduce handling noise and stand vibration, so you could use the stand adapter that comes included with the mic for most applications. If you feel that you need additional isolation, you can try the Rycote InVision INV-HG mkIII Microphone Suspension Lyre Shockmount (B&H # RYINVHGMKIII), which accommodates microphones with a diameter of 19 to 34mm and should work on the handle of the VP88.

Q: 8. Can this mount to a light stand?

A: Yes. You will need the C-stand knuckle. When it's set up remember to either sandbag your C-stand securely or make sure that the cantilevered mic/boom pole don't tip the C-stand over.

Q: 9. Whats the maximum weight this can handle? Was hoping to use with a monopod and FS5.

A: I have found that my boom pole will sometimes swing around in the socket from the weight of the boom mic. I certainly would not trust this setup to an expensive camera. you might want to try something with mafer clamps for more security. don't forget sandbags!

Q: 10. Is there a threaded hole or baby pin insert at the bottom of the boom pole?

A: The Neewer MS-230C Handheld Telescoping Boom pole (7.5') does not have any threaded holes or 5/8" female receiver at the bottom of the boom pole.

I like these a lot; they noticeably reduce vibrations from the stand with all mics compared to most factory clips. I use these with all my SDC's universally without issue. They are much more effective at vibration reduction than the INV-HG, but can't support as much weight.

They'll hold all but the heaviest or narrowest SDC's. Usefully you can move the lyres around between the mounting points with a hex wrench, so it's easier to hold shorter (like 84-style) or tapered SDC's (like M221's or similar). They struggle a little with very heavy mics like sE RN17's (which are also unusually narrow) or Aston Starlights, but it seems like you can purchase stronger lyres, or even stick in a third one in the middle if you want. I keep one pair with the farthest lyre brought back to the mid position, and another pair with the farthest lyre left as factory, so I can choose whichever pair works with the mics I'm using.

Best feature is by far the cable management/strain relief clip on the base of the mic clip. I wish all mic clips had that; saves so much time managing cables during setup.

That's what your mic will be in when you mount it to the Rycote INV-7. These work with a wide range of smaller diameter mics. We find these nice alternatives to the factory clips for the Earthworks QTC-50s.

Great shock mount for my shotgun mic. Fits the Rode NTG2 perfect on a boom pole or mic stand. DeadCat - Windscreens no problem. Sturdy, quiet gets the job done.

Perfect for keeping my 416 vibration free. I use a compact boom and given the savings in size and cost over a pistol grip style mic holder I'm very happy with it.

not as delicate as some other shock mounts, no bands to wear out, fits naturally on manfrotto threads and has a small visual weight which is great for my main stereo pair

Mount is highly adjustable and effective in it's function. Well worth the price. B&H is great as always; clear description, items in stock, and prompt, well packaged shipping!

Pairing this with my Senneheiser MKE 600. Build seems maybe a little flimsy for a travel setup but it's worked so far. Have some concern over it getting smashed if I put my boom pole in my tripod case or something but for in-town setups it seems solid.

Very good isolation, very well built and durable. Rubber grommets (?) protect my MKH416. Highly recommended. Why does a similar product from Neumann cost$??? I've never understood the pricing models for shock mounts :)
