Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How much weight can the adjustable shelf support?

A: While a load capacity on the adjustable shelf for the EDC-30L is not publish, it could easily hold 3 lenses or a camera body up to 5-6 lbs.

Q: 2. What are the interior dimensions of this (80L) cabinet?

A: 17.7 x 12.9 x 21.1 / 45.0 x 32.9 x 53.5 cm

Q: 3. I just purchased a ruggard cabinet. When I plug it in nothing happens Dothe lights on control panel come in when plugged in?

A: You would have to press the light bulb icon button located the top right of the cabinet to trigger the lights.

Q: 4. does the screen on the unit turn on/illuminate once you plug it in or is there an actual on/off power button? I plugged the unit into the outlet properly but the display did not illuminate so I'm thinking that I received a defective product.

A: Your Ruggard EDC-80L dry cabinet should work fully out of the box. There is no on/off switch and the unit should power up once it is plugged in. We would recommend contacting the manufacturer at info@gradusgroup.com for assistance in troubleshooting this issue.

Q: 5. Can you switch door opening direction from right to left?

A: No, you would not be able to switch the direction of the door.

Q: 6. Is a dry cabinet like this appropriate for preventing condensation forming on gear that I've used for hours in below freezing weather - like chasing auroras or other astrophotography in subfreezing temperatures for hours?

A: The Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet would not work for your stated usage needs. It is designed to protect your equipment from dust, dirt, and moisture and to regulate the interior's relative humidity to help prevent fungus and corrosion from damaging your gear, and it is designed for indoor storage usage. Condensation or frost is caused by the combination of indoor/outdoor temperature differences, indoor/outdoor humidity differences, and the dew point. Your issue would be moving your equipment from outdoor freezing conditions into the warmer indoor conditions inside the cabinet would still run the risk of condensation/frost if you take your equipment out of the case you used to transport the equipment indoors. The rapid temperature difference and dew point is the cause of condensation/frost. If you will place your wrapped equipment inside a case that you had with you in the freezing conditions, and keep your camera equipment INSIDE the case and place it inside the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet, then allowing time for the temperature inside the case to warm up slowly without opening it, then this would work and would regulate the humidity inside the cabinet. I would still recommend waiting approximately 12 hours so the temperatures can equalize before exposing your camera to the warmer air.

Q: 7. Can I stack another one on top? Any vibration from the cabinet?

A: Yes, No vibration of any kind from unit.

Q: 8. What technology does this cabinet use? multi-porous molecular sieve desiccants or peltier cooler?

A: In the overview section of this page, they state a "TE Cooling" method is used. Thermoelectric (TE) cooler is a Peltier junction. Water vapor freezes to the face of the cooler, then, allowed to thaw. The condensed liquid is transported to the outside on a medium.

Q: 9. The adjustable tray in the 80L cabinet is a little too adjustable. It moves out every time I pick an item off it. Is there a way to fix the tray so that it does not move at all? Other than that, I love the cabinet.

A: Unfortunately, aside from modifying the tray itself, the EDC-80L has no built-in way of preventing the tray from shifting.

Q: 10. What is the interior dimensions of this 120 l unit?

A: The interior dimensions are; depth 13.5" width 14" height 34.5"
