Very fast SSD. Way faster than previous SATA M.2 drive - and that was really good, too! I am pleased with this purchase.

If you are looking for a snappy SSD, this is the one for you. Honestly it is just a great all around drive. If your are even thinking about getting one just do it. You will not regret it.

The Samsung 980 Pro is a perfect addition to any gaming laptop or computer where you want fast response times and maximum performance! The SSD is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 drive, so to experience its full speed, you need a fourth generation PCI slot, preferably at least 4 channels 4x4, but 4x2 also works. Putting the drive in an older generation slot will inhibit its full speed, but you may still see improvements over your old drive. You can further customize the drive with Samsung's Wizard software (free), and Samsung also offers a convenient and effective SSD cloning tool called Samsung Data Transfer (free) to copy the data from your old drive to your new drive in a few simple steps. The software is available for download on Samsung's website. The software tools further unlock the drive's potential by optimizing, allowing encryption, and setting up an overprocessing buffer space to help extend the life of the SSD drive. If you have the right PCIe slot It's definitely worth the money to upgrade to his drive, especially if you're a gamer. Everything responds much faster with this drive, even non-gaming applications. I have found Samsung to simply be the best when it comes to SSD drives. The 980 PRO is no exception. I am very pleased.

I ran a basic disk benchmark on my Linux system, which has 3 NVMe M.2 1 TB drives: two 980 Pro and an Intel PCIe 3.0 drive. The motherboard is a Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master and the CPU is an AMD Ryzen 9 3950X, both of which support PCIe 4.0 as well as PCIe 3.0.
Both 980 Pro drives were faster (sometimes almost 3 times!) than the Intel drive in most of the tests, but one of the random write tests was a bit slower than the Intel drive. This was with the BIOS settings at the default speeds -- it's a new installation and I haven't done any overclocking yet.
Overall, I'm very happy with the drive so far.

Best NVME you can buy! I purchased this for my PS5. I currently use in an external NVME enclosure connected to my PS5. I understand this NVME is overkill for an external enclosure, but I hope Sony will allow this to be used in the PS5 internal NVME slot. Currently, there no guarantee this will happen.
