A: The Blue Snowball iCE is a great mic but it's mono and ideal for voice-overs or podcasts. I would highly recommend you consider the Zoom IQ7 (B&H# ZOIQ7). It has the ability to connect directly to the lighting port of your iPhone and record high quality stereo audio.

Q: 5. Would any usb-c wire work with this microphone?

A: The Sennheiser Profile USB Condenser Microphone Streaming Set with Boom Arm will work with USB-C cables which are capable of carrying both data and power.

A: You would need a little bit more depth than 1" to mount the clamp securely.

A: Yes, we do sell a USB-C data power switch, which is the OBSBOT USB-A to USB-C Data Power Cable with On/Off Switch (B&H # OBOCB2107CT).

Q: 8. Does this microphone amplify background sounds?

A: The Snowball does not amplify background sound, however when used with the Omni pattern selection will pickup up equally on all sides of the mic covering a wide area. Cardioid pattern will offer the most directional pickup without capturing much surrounding ambience.

Q: 9. does this cancel out background noise?

A: Microphones typically do not cancel out sound. The microphone cannot determine or distinguish noise from the desired audio. The cardioid pattern of this mic is designed for close use and will generally pick-up sound mainly from the front. Sound that is reflected off walls, ceilings, and floors may still be picked-up. Some unwanted noise or sounds can often be edited out of the final mix as well using DAW software on your computer.

Q: 10. Why cant Blue make a blue microphone?

A: Unfortunately the Blue Snowball is no longer available in blue.

I've been a broadcaster since '74, used many mics over the years, and the Snowball is by far the coolest (mine is white). Am going on Live365 in about a month & doing pre-production now. The Snowball is exactly what I need: it sounds fantastic, especially for the price. With the addition of a pop filter to take care of those pesky plosives, there's nothing I would change about it. My Windows XP OS recognized it right away & I'm using it in Adobe Audition w. great results. Solid, well built & a perfect 10 on the cool meter, you can't do better for anywhere near the money. 5

Our company was having it's bi-annual launch meeting for new books coming off press next year. We wanted to mix things up a bit and have some of our authors present their own books to us live via skype. We needed the authors to have the ability to hear everyone in the room. I setup the snowball in the middle of the conference room tables and it worked perfectly for our group of 25. The average distance from the snowball was 10 feet and our authors had no problem hearing us. 5

I am not a professional studio musician. I play around at home, and use this mic with Garage Band to record my double bass. It sounds great, and is far better than I was expecting considering the price. There are two things that could be improved upon.. one is that the stand is really dinky. It's strong enough, but it's really small... the mic will tip easily if it's bumped, and it's really too short to do anything with. The other thing is that the input level was lower than I was expecting. Neither concern would keep me from buying this mic again... I LOVE IT! 5

So you plug this thing in right, and then you just start recording. So easy to use. The quality is outstanding. The Snowball is so durable that it makes it a great mobile option! I want to buy more of them. 5

This mic has worked out great for streaming audio from our band practice. The mic is heavy and durable with three switchable patterns on the back. I use #3 setting which is Omni for band practice. We place the mic a few feet from the PA with it's back to the room. It picks up the drums and sound great without distorting. I also use this mic when I play World of Warcraft with Ventrilo or Vent as we call it for chatting online with friends during gameplay. It sounds great compared to my webcams mic. You might not want to use this mic with Cubase or other DAWS though. It requires it's own ASIO driver to work, and so I can't seem to get it working along side with my normal Firepod rig. Anyhow, it's a fantastic USB mic for louder environments as well as for podcasting. You will have to get close to the mic for podcasting, though. If you want a more sensative mic for quiet talkers, I think Samson also makes a nice Condenser USB mic. 5
