This lens cap replaces the Canon original. With a mounted lens hood, the new inside pinch style of lens cap is much easier to attach or remove.

If you are shooting a lot outdoors and using lens hood, then you should get one these lens caps because it's very easy to attach and detach from lens without removing the lens hood.

I purchased this cap to replace the old cap. These are much easier to remove with the center pinch design. Now all my Canon lenses have the version II lens caps.

Pros: - removable with hood attached - works with my (non-slim) B+W filters - looks great Cons: - bulkier due to design (not a big deal)

Yeah, Canon originals are more expensive than the cheapies, but you can trust them to not have a spring go boing! I have replaced all my old style lens caps with the new pinch-style ones, and I am glad I did because I use lens hoods in the field. I have no problem removing or replacing these lens caps with the hood attached, including the 70-200 f/2.8 and the 100mm macro.

FINALLY! Why in the world did Canon take so long to catch up? I'm glad they finally did. Very nice and chunky feel to it.

It's a lens cap. Click on, Stays on. Job done perfectly.

Since all my lenses were bought back before the lens cap redesign, I didn't get to play with a new Canon lens cap until I re-purchased a 24LII earlier this year. These new lens caps have a higher tension and teeth that have more bite resulting in asecure hold I've never experienced in other lens caps. The new center pinch mechanism makes lens cap removal and placement in deep lens hood designs easy. Replaced the lens caps on the rest of my lenses as a result.
