Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How is this lens in low lighting?

A: This lens is designed to compliment the 18-55mm kit lens. But it's not a very fast lens. F4 at 55mm and F5.6 at 200mm means it's not the best choice for low light situations.

Q: 2. Is this lens FX or DX?

A: This is an FX type lens. DX type lenses will always have the DX label on them, older FX lenses are not labled FX, so if you find a lens without any designation such as this one, it is an FX default. Newer FX type lenses will bare the FX designation on them going forwards.

Q: 3. What is the purpose of the extra space around the actual picture area in the viewfinder? I bought this to use on my new 610, and find the extra area distracting. Is it for use on a DX camera body?

A: Is it possible that you have the D610 set to DX Crop Mode.Check the camera manual in the choose image area if the setting was at the DX format , If so, you were shooting with 1.5X crop format. You can switch back to FX format or auto which will automatic switch to DX when a DX lens is mounted. Your 70-300mm lens is a FX lens.Under the Shooting Menu/Image Area there should be 2 settings 1) auto DX mode (on/off) 2)Choose image area (FX/DX)Lee Kappelwww LeeKappel com

Q: 4. Has anyone tried the LensSack Jr. with a gimbal head? Would like to use the Jr. with a gimbal head and Nikon 600 f/4 while in Kenya.

A: According to LensCoat, you may add a gimbal to this product via the 3/8-16” mounting plate.

Q: 5. Can I use this bag for my Nikon 600mm f4 lens?

A: I use my Nikon 800mm no problem.

Q: 6. Does this lens work using the complete full-frame capability with the D610?

A: The Nikon AF-S 70-300mm lens is fully compatible with the D610. This is a FX format camera.

Q: 7. When jumping out of an airplane without a helmet camera which lens should I use on my SLR or should I forget even trying to shoot with a SLR and try a point and shoot camera? Will the camera sense vibration moving through the air on a downward path? I sky dive often but have never photograph the dive. Helmet camera would probably be the best but I want stills not video...

A: This lens may kill you on impact. Seriously, if you're serious, Sony makes very small, high quality mirrorless cameras...such as the A7.

Q: 8. Shooting from a Silverado pickup with a Nikon D810 and a Sigma Sport 150-600mm lens, would the Pro or the Jr. be a better choice?

A: The jr. works fine w/ my 400 mm lens and small car. But I'd say the Pro would be better for your lens and bigger vehicle.

Q: 9. 1- could you let me know the size of the filter I can put in front of the 95mm objective?

A: Hello Jeremiah - My apologies for the delay in responding - I did not get the notification. The 95mm Modular Objective can accept a 97mm filter size, which is a VERY uncommon size. Here is the bottom line, even if you were able to source out a 97mm filter, or use a 105mm filter and a step-down ring: there are no filters currently on the market that will not adversely affect the optical performance of the spotting scope. Thinking this through: a $400 filter used on a Canon 800mm f/5/6 lens is only having to work with a 16x lens magnification. It is a perfectly good optical system. That same filter quality attached to the 95mm scope now has to deliver top optical quality at 70x!!! If you want to use the filter as protection for the scope front element, you will be adversely affecting image quality by doing so. My tip - slide out the retractable sunshade when you are using the spotting scope in the field, and it will be less likely for you to scratch or damage the scope lens.

Q: 10. If I am shooting moving objects and I have currently the Nikon 55-300, is it worth the upgrade to the 70-300? What differences will I notice?

A: Im considering buying the 70-300. I just went to Best Buy to compare these 2 lenses side by side. I was impressed with both but the 70-300 auto focus was noticeably faster. Other than that there wasnt much difference. I think this lens will work better if you shoot sports. Also I like the manual focus ring on this lens better than the 55-300
