This amazing Thunderbolt drive is exactly as described, No setup needed, just plug the included Thunderbolt cable to your Mac, that's all!!. Super fast 8TB storage. Yes it is noisy, just like any other mechanical H.D.D! What is also fantastic about it, is that you don't lose a Thunderbolt slot. I connect my other drives through the additional Thunderbolt slot. you can connect your Thunderbolt display to it as well. It is a good buy.

Plugged into my iMac Retina with the included Thunderbolt cable and the drive was quickly recognized. Reading and writing to this drive has proven to be fast - no complaints whatsoever. The only thing that might annoy some users is the sound of the fan, which is a necessary evil to keep the drives cools. That aside, I'm quite happy with the product and consider it money well-spent.

I've been using these USB3.0 G-Raid drives for several years for 4k and HD video editing. I have two 4 TB versions in addition to this 8TB I just bought and they have never failed. The only issue is that the internal HD's are green drives which means they will spin down after only a couple of minutes of not being accessed, no matter what the operating system's settings are, due to the internal drive firmware. I finally called G Technology and asked for a solution. They recommended a little free-ware program called KeepAliveHD (for PC) which works great! It writes a small text file to the drive at an interval that you set in the program. I set it for 30 seconds. (There is a similar program for Mac). Now, my computer is never waiting for the drives to spin up and works much smoother and faster.
