Give your creative workflow a major boost with the ARC-8050T3U 112TB 8-Bay Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array from Areca. Each of the eight 3.5" bays has a 14TB enterprise-class SATA III hard drive installed, providing 112TB of total storage for your massive files such as ProRes video, RAW photos, and 3D renders.

The hardware-based controller allows you to configure the drive tower in RAID 0, 1, 10, 3, 5, 6, 30, 50, or 60 mode to balance between speed, accessible storage, and data redundancy. With two Thunderbolt 3 ports, you can daisy chain up to six ARC-8050T3U enclosure or other devices directly to your compatible computer with an up to 40 Gb/s connection. Hardware-based encryption and self-encrypting drive (SED) support helps to protect your data. A DisplayPort output lets you enhance your workflow by connecting a separate 8K, 30 Hz monitor. Dual fans help to maintain optimal performance. The ARC-8050T3U is designed to work with Windows and macOS devices.

At the heart of ARC-8050T3U 8-bay RAID storage is a powerful dual-core Broadcom ROC It delivers true hardware RAID functionality without sharing the CPU computing power on the host system, which also eases off CPU loading as compared to software RAID and when rebuilding an array in the event of a drive failure.

Host independent real-time controller-based hardware encryption does not impact the performance of ARC-8050T3U, storage and it can implement on any kind of hard drive that is transparent to the user, the OS, and applications. SED encryption secures sensitive data from unauthorized access or modification in the event of drive theft, as well as more routine activities such as the return of defective drives for servicing or the decommission or repurposing of drives. Local key management in the controller is designed to protect data from security breaches with minimal cost and complexity. The ARC-8050T3U supports 128- and 256-bit encryption keys or passwords.

The Areca firmware Security Function works with self-encrypting drives (SEDs) to secure their data from unauthorized access or modification. Protection is achieved by the SED hard drive that automatically and continuously encrypts the data on the drive without any user interaction.

The ARC-8050T3U offers smooth multitasking during sustained 4K overloads in 4K environment with 2GB of 1866 MHz DDR3 memory. You can configure how much SDRAM cache SDRAM is dedicated to read and how much for write to fit your performance needs.

Configure and manage your ARC-8050T3U directly using the convenient LCD screen, which provides information at a glance. Alternatively, you can manage the device using the browser-based interface when it is connected to your Thunderbolt 3 compatible computer or through the Gigabit Ethernet port.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could I put larger capacity hard drives in this to increase the overall size?

A: This model can take drives up to 12TB capacity per drive.

Q: 2. Does this come with the cord to hook up to my 2017 Imac?

A: Yes. Mine came with 2 cords. One with both ends USB-3 and the other one end USB the other end USB-3.

Q: 3. what kind of HDs are included in this option? Enterprise level 7200rpm?

A: Unfortunately after repeated attempts to contact the manufacturer we have not received a response as to which drives are included with the array.

Q: 4. Why does the info state this: Thunderbolt 3 ports is used to interface with your host system at speeds of up to 480 MB/s," this seems very slow for Thunderbolt 3? The Promise Pegasus 3 claims speeds up to 2700mb/s, and then this write up claims faster speeds for USB 3.1. This is confusing copy and some clarification would be nice.

A: The SATA hard drives in this unit are the bottleneck and are slower than the TB3 is capable of.

Q: 5. Can this hard disk be used as raid 1 in windows 7?

A: This device is meant to be used on Windows 8.1 or later.

Q: 6. How does the RAID 1 configuration work for video editing? Can you still work directly off of the drive? Working with 4K footage using FCPX & Resolve. Thanks!

A: RAID 1 is a pure backup format. You will go from 8TB capacity to 4TB capacity as one drive will simply copy the same information as the other drive. This can still be used for video editing, it just will not be as fast as a RAID 0 configuration, which is both drives acting as one.

Q: 7. What is the Initial RAID Configuration? is it Pre-Format?

A: The manufacture doesn't specify it comes Pre-formatted with a particular RAID. This model supports RAID 0, 1, 10, 3, 5, 6, 30, 50, 60, Single Disk, and JBOD. You can format the enclosure with the RAID setting you like.

Q: 8. Will the unit back up my photo files within the same folders as I have them in Lightroom? Or will the photos be in some other open list format?

A: If you're backing up with time machine, yes. If these will be your working files, no. Once you move the parent folder (outside LR) you will have to refresh the folder's location so that LR knows that your photos are now in a different hard drive even if they are under the same structure.

Q: 9. What type of drives come with this enclosure? Speed? Enterprise level?

A: The manufacturer does not specify the drives used in this enclosure.

Q: 10. What is the difference between this and the G-Technology 8TB G-RAID Studio. Is it just their read/write speeds? Thanks

A: The GRaid thunderbolt 2 also has a USB 3 port. The studio is thunderbolt only. Otherwise it is just asthetic differences such as shape and color.
