Doubling the speed of its predecessor, USB 3.2 Gen 2 features a maximum throughput of 10 Gb/s when used with compatible devices.

RAID 0 (Striping) combines data evenly across both drives simultaneously, dramatically increasing performance. RAID 0 will be viewed as one single storage unit. If one disk in the RAID system fails, all data stored on the installed disks will be lost.

RAID 1 (Mirroring) consists of two drives storing duplicate copies of the same data. In this mode, the data is simultaneously written to both drives. The speed of operation is slow in comparison to RAID 0, but if one drive fails, no data is lost. Simply replace the failed drive. The total capacity is equal to one drive. For example, if installing 2 x 1TB drives, the total capacity will be 1TB.

JBOD (Clear) is simply a collection of drives that are recognized as separate drives by the OS. JBOD provides no performance increase or redundancy. This is the default setting.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this hard drive be moved between both a Mac and PC or does the drive have to be dedicated to just one computer platform?

A: The Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4 8TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Portable Hard Drive & RAID Array is compatible with both Mac and PC without a reformat.

Q: 2. hard disk

A: It comes with the hard drives included.

Q: 3. Are the drives removable? (I want to mirror the drives and have a third copy in the safe as an archive.)

A: Not without completely disassembling the box. I would recommend and hot swap HD caddy like New Technology Voyager and mirroring software like Synchron.

Q: 4. How does it work on a Mac running Big Sur?

A: You should not have any issues with running this Hard Drive on Big Sur.

Q: 5. Is there a reliability issue between 3TB and 2TB drives, some suggest 3TB drives are bound to fail sooner than 2TB, is this true? What will be the file transfer rate if I'm using this on windows PC with USB 2.0. I do not have a MAC and plan to install a PCIe for USB 3.0 if my PC supports it. Thanks

A: A large video library for a production company was duplicated on 2 of these drives. One is with me to work with my Mac. The other is with my editor and his PC and AVID set up. We have only had the drives since October 2016. A 1TB Glyph RAID drive did fail after 6 years. So I do not think the size of the drive matters. The 1TB drive was kept indoors in an edit facility. Sometimes S*** happens.

Q: 6. Can the USB-A and USB-C hub connectors in the back both be used at the same time?? Or is it just one at a time??

A: The USB A and USB C ports labeled HUB on the back of the Oyen Digital MiniPro RAID V4 16TB 2-Bay USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 Portable SSD & RAID Array (2 x 8TB), B&H # OY2RV4SS16T, could be used at the same time. Keep in mind that these ports are just a USB hub so in order for you to use them, the USB C port labeled Main would need to be connected to the computer. You could then use the USB A or USB C ports for other USB Accessories. This would not allow you to use the drive between two computers at the same time.

Q: 7. how do you change the raid setup?

A: There's a switch on the back to change from RAID 0 and 1. Mine came in RAID 1 and I didn't want to change it to RAID 0, but my guess is the change isn't too complicated, especially when the drive is empty.

Q: 8. What brand of hard drives are inside the glyph raid unit ?

A: Glyph Technologies do not publish the brand of drive they have installed.

Q: 9. Is Glyph going to offer a Thunderbolt 3 RIAD anytime soon?

A: Hi Dennis, you would have to query Glyph on this.

Q: 10. Is hardware RAID 1 supported on this?

A: As far as I can tell, the RAID controller on the drive does NOT allow you to switch between RAID 0 and RAID 1, but you can switch it to RAID 1 through the OS X disk utility. I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you have any additional questions.

This is about my 10th GRaid drive! Each video project gets a new one. This one was for our college son to work on Final Cut pro On his Mac Pro which was purchased from B & H also. So far all is working great, I expect nothing less from G-Raid, Mac or B & H. You are the best.

I bought this external drive for scratch work when using Final Cut Pro - it seems to be fast enough to get a couple of 1080P streams simultaneously. It is stylish and seems to be well built. I can't comment on its reliability as I have only had it for a few weeks or so. I partitioned this drive to use 1TB as scratch space and 1TB to basically clone my OS drive in case the main drive fails I can get a new one and clone it back. As far as noise level goes its quieter than most of the drives I've used previously, it doesn't appear to be loud by any means but it's loud enough to know it is running. I was first turned on to the G-Tech series from one of Chase Jarvis's videos about their process of backing up, etc. Bottom line: A great drive so far.

For a 1TB unit, its smaller than I thought it would be . . . but . . . it still has a cooling fan. And when I spend hours editing video projects its nice to know that that fan is keeping the heat under control. I think this unit is going to work out well . . .

I was looking for a small portable HD to use on the road and this one was the solution. I don't even have to carry the power supply with me since it is buss powered. I've been able to edit HD footage without any hiccups. Great storage unit and I would highly recommend purchasing this G-Raid product.
