Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What size should I get for Canon 70-200?

A: If you go to Daystar website or call them on the phone, I think that is where I read that if you have the 77MM pro lens, meaning it is 77MM in diameter then get the 65 - 89 Solar filter. I have the 70-200 F2.8 non IS lens. I did not put it on yet.

Q: 2. 70 mm size, would it work on my 2 lenses with filter sizes are 77 and 62 mm or should I also buy the smaller size?

A: For use on a 77 mm filter size , we recommend the DayStar Filters 90mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 85-99mm OD) B&H # DAULF90 90mm = 3.54331 inches. 77 mm = 3.0315 70 mm = 2.75591 inches. 62 mm = 2.44094 inches.

Q: 3. I have a 24-120 mm using a 77 mm filter. The lens hood diameter is 110 mm. Should I use the lens hood during the eclipse?

A: It is a matter of opinion but I would recommend using the hood always. Even if the sun is directly in the frame and the hood cannot stop the flares, the hood still provides safety protection in case the camera is dropped. Since the Daystar filter is not large enough for the hood, this screw on ND filter can be used for solar protection instead: https://bhpho.to/2m7h8oX

Q: 4. Does this come in metric?

A: Logan Graphics 440-1: Team System Plus BH #LO4401 • MFR #440-1 doesn't come in Metric.

Q: 5. Can I use this to take practice photos of the sun for the upcoming solar eclipse?

A: Yes, you can use the DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter can be used to take practice photos of the sun, to get ready for photographing the upcoming solar eclipse. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/photography/tips-and-solutions/how-to-photograph-a-solar-eclipse

Q: 6. What size should I get for a lens using a 77mm filter, Canon 100-400?

A: Get the 65-89mm OD (outside diameter). I have a 77mm lens and it fits perfectly.

Q: 7. Can I use this to take photos of the sun for practice of the upcoming solar eclipse?

A: Yes. The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter can be used for solar photography with or without an eclipse.

Q: 8. If using 67 mm lens which one is better to use 65-89, or 50-69?

A: My selection would be for the smaller, DayStar Filters 50mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 50-69mm OD) BH #DAULF50 • MFR #ULF50

Q: 9. Why do you need the filter if you are wearing proper safety glasses?

A: You need the filter to protect your camera's sensor before and after totality. You should remove it during totality. Also, use the camera's display screen and not the viewfinder to protect your eyes.

Q: 10. what is the ND equivalent of this filter?

A: The DayStar Filters 70mm White-Light Universal Lens Solar Filter (Single, 65-89mm OD) is a solar filter and not an ND. So there is no density rating for it.

These were on an official list of recommended vendors, and you can trust B&H vs some of the other online sources that sometimes do a bait and switch (even if the ISO numbers were on them).

I was able to watch the eclipse safely. I chose to order here rather than from another source because my experience over many years has inclined me to trust B&H's integrity.
