The ELM-C from Pearl Microphone Labs is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone with a cardioid polar pattern designed for professional studio recording. At the heart of the ELM-C lies the rubber-fitted ELM capsule, a unique 7:1 rectangular condenser capsule that offers an extremely smooth off-axis response, detailed sound capture, and very-low self noise.
The 7:1 length/width ratio of the capsule means that the polar pattern of the capsule functions like a standard cardioid in the horizontal plane, while vastly reducing the high frequencies, arriving from the vertical plane above and below the mic, a property that can be extremely useful for minimizing unwanted reflections from the floor and ceiling, providing the audio engineer with a valuable tool to handle poor room acoustics and challenging acoustical environments. This unusually narrow horizontal plane makes the ELM-C an excellent choice for choirs, drum overheads, vocals, instruments, string orchestras, symphonies, and ensembles.
The ELM-C is excellent for stereo mic configurations and is also sold as a matched stereo pair. The mic features a gold-plated XLR connector, requires 48V phantom power, and includes a rubber shockmount and wooden case.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can i use this for recording in real time? Is it a microphone?, and will it come up as a microphone on my computer?
A: This is a complete Voice Over kit with a microphone and everything else you need to do professional sounding VO production. The kit includes the software you will need to record and edit your tracks as well as Speech and Voice Processor Plug-Ins. If you are speaking into a microphone and recording with the software that comes with this kit, everything is in real time.
Q: 2. I read in the Product highlights that the NTK comes with a dual diaphragm capsule, and 9 polar patterns? Is this correct? ( I believe that describes is the Rode K2, and not the NTK.) Nor does it use phantom power.
A: I apologize for the confusion, the NTK is a cardioid patterned mic, not variable, and utilizes its own included power supply.
Q: 3. Is the included female to 2x male XLR cable meant to be just an adapter as it seems short? I would be connecting to MixPre-3
A: The Y-cable that is included with the NT4 stereo microphone is 10.3 feet long and can be used to connect directly to the inputs on a MixPre-3. If a longer length is needed, you can attach standard 3-pin XLR cables onto each side as extensions. The included Y-cable is the Rode NT4-DXLR Stereo 5-Pin XLR to Dual 3-Pin XLR Cable for NT-4 Fixed X/Y Condenser Microphone (B&H # RONT4DXLRCBL).
Q: 4. Is it working well (no noises on signal) with 48v phantom power? I need a simple talkback mic to a unit with 48v phantom power which is on while recording with a condenser mic.
A: It doesn't work with phantom power. It takes a 9v battery in the base and needs the battery in order to operate. There is an audible click/pop when the switch is pushed (the volume of which is moderate - neither particularly loud or soft).
Q: 5. Is it Mac & Garageband compatible? I assume so but just checking.
A: The Senal SC550X Cardioid Condenser Mic with USB Dual Audio Interface & Cable Kit is compatible with Mac OS X and garageband.
Q: 6. Is it always necessary to push to talk? Can the mic stay on?
A: No, it is a toggle switch not momentary. It will stay on the on position in which the ring around the button lights up as well as a ring around the microphone. If you hit the button again all lights go off and the microphone should be in the off position.
Q: 7. how long is cord?
A: While the manufacturer does not specify the length of the cable, a picture in the manual would suggest 12''-18'' estimated length.
Q: 8. Does this come with a microphone cable?
A: it comes with a female xlr- male 1/4 . So basically the male 1/4 needs to go into the mixer end.
Q: 9. I have a small production coming up where I have to record someone singing. Is than an appropriate mic for singing vocals? The talent will be listening to the music via headphones so this mic will only capture her voice.
A: For a recording application like the one you are describing, the Senal SC-550X would be a great model to consider for this application.
Q: 10. I hear a very loud, persistent, high-pitched ring when I record with my laptop. Is there a way to fix that? Also, my table stand does not fit the shock mount :/
A: As for the the shock mount, please double check that any smaller thread adapter inside the thread area of mount has been removed. This often can be achieved with a penny or nickel. Regarding the high pitched ring, there could be many reasons for noise issues, I do recommend calling in to our team of specialists for assistance.
