A 24.24MP APS-C CMOS sensor pairs with the PRIME MII image processor to create clean, high-resolution image quality, a sensitivity range of ISO 100-102400, and the ability to record Full HD 1080p video. The processor and sensor combination also affords a range of continuous shooting capabilities, including a 6 fps shooting rate for up to 40 consecutive JPEGs, 10 raw frames, or 8 raw+JPEG exposures.

The 3.0" 1.03m-dot vari-angle LCD monitor allows the monitor to be positioned at the desired angle, making it easier to compose images in a wide variety of situations. Designed for both high-angle and low-angle shooting, the monitor features unique air-gapless construction to effectively reduce the reflection and dispersion of light for improved visibility during outdoor shooting.

The outdoor-friendly LCD monitor features selectable brightness levels which can be instantly adjusted to the lighting level of any shooting location. The LCD monitor also features a Night Vision Red Light LCD display function, which greatly reduces eyestrain when shooting in dark locations such as nightscape and astrophotography modes used in combination with the optional O-GPS2 GPS Module.

Within its compact body, the PENTAX KF incorporates a glass prism viewfinder featuring the same optics and coatings as those used in higher-level models. With its approximately 100% field of view and 0.95x magnification, the viewfinder provides a large, clear view of the subject for quick, easy confirmation of focusing and framing.

The built-in sensor-shift Shake Reduction (SR) mechanism effectively minimizes camera shake and delivers sharp, blur-free images, even in conditions prone to camera shake, such as when

using a telephoto lens, shooting low-light scenes with ambient light, or photographing sunset scenes. Using a high-accuracy gyro sensor, it provides a compensation effect of 4.5 shutter stops. When taking a panning shot, this mechanism automatically detects the direction of the camera's movement and efficiently controls the SR unit to produce the best image possible without requiring any mode switching operation.

The Pixel Shift Resolution System captures four images of the same scene by shifting the image sensor by a single pixel for each image, then synthesizes them into a single composite image. Compared to the conventional Bayer system, in which each pixel has only a single-color data unit, this innovative system obtains all color data in each pixel to deliver super-high-resolution images with far more truthful colors and much finer details than those produced by conventional APS-C-size image sensors. This system even provides a motion correction function, which automatically detects a moving object during continuous shooting and minimizes negative effects during the synthesizing process in order to accommodate a wider range of scenes and subjects.

By applying microscopic vibrations to the image sensor unit at the sub-pixel level during

image exposure, the AA (anti-aliasing) filter simulator provides the same level of moiré

reduction as an optical AA filter. Unlike an optical AA filter, which always creates the

identical result, this innovative simulator lets the user switch the AA filter effect on and off, as well as adjust the level of the effect. This means that the ideal effect can be set for a particular scene or subject based on the photographic conditions.

The high-precision SAFOX X AF sensor module assures responsive, dependable autofocus operation. With its 11 distinct phase-detection points including 9 cross-type sensors in the middle, this AF module delivers pinpoint focus on the subject at a minimum brightness level as low as -3 EV. It also assures outstanding AF tracking performance with moving subjects, enabled by advanced features such as the Select-area Expansion function, which automatically refocuses on a moving subject after it moves away from the initial point. Additional features include an AF Hold function that maintains the initial in-focus point even when the module loses sight of the subject.

Full HD 1920 x 1080 video recording is supported in multiple frame rates, including 60i, 50i, 30p, 25p, and 24p, in the high-quality H.264 format. HD 1280 x 720 video is also supported in 60p and 50p frame rates. Audio can be recorded along with video using the built-in stereo microphone or, additionally, a 3.5mm microphone terminal is available for use of an external mic.

The PENTAX KF provides a host of advanced interval shooting functions, including 4K Interval Movie mode, which allows you to record a series of still images at a fixed interval and then link them into a single 4K movie file. Star Stream Movie mode that enables you to the traces of stars or illuminations on a 4K movie file. And Interval Composite mode, which synthesizes a composite image with a choice of three synthesis modes: average, additive, and comparative.

Featuring a unique Custom Image function, the Pentax KF lets users process an image with the desired finishing touch to express their creative intention, or to suit the particular scene. This function provides 14 Custom Image modes that include: SATOBI, which reproduces the

colors resembling those of color pictures in the 60s and 70s, with cyan-tinged blues, subdued yellows, and faded reds; Bleach Bypass, which recreates the profound atmosphere of movie scenes; and Cross Processing, which adds fantastic, unusual colors to captured images.

Featuring customizable control options, the camera can be personalized to match your shooting preferences by assigning desired functions to the buttons and dials on the camera body. A double e-dial system can be used to control the operating system, allowing you to instantly shift the aperture or shutter-speed settings without taking your eye from the viewfinder. To assure a firm hold on the camera body, even with a gloved hand, the grip, control buttons, and mode dials are contoured to offer optimum comfort and operability in outdoor shooting situations.

Providing a host of wireless functions for smartphones and tablets, with the dedicated Image Sync app, mobile users can remotely check the live view image, capture still images, and adjust such camera settings including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO sensitivity. It is also possible to download captured images onto a mobile device, then upload them to social networking websites.

A dependable performer in demanding settings such as rain, fog, or snow, or at locations prone to dust and freezing temperatures, the weather-resistant body is perfect for rugged outdoor

photography. Typical of Pentax's designs, the camera features dustproof, weather-resistant construction with 100 seals throughout the body and outstanding cold-proof performance at temperatures down to -14°F.

I have used this lens for sports and still shots and I am very happy with it. Silent auto focus, crystal clear pics, solid build. I would tell others to buy it. Great walk around lens.

Smooth and fast focusing, good performance with K-5, and impressed by the WR. But there is little bit tight for zooming.

Haven't had much of a chance to use it since it arrived while we were out of town for the holidays. I have noticed that it is whisper quiet while focusing and quick to autofocus with the K5. The build is very solid. I am having trouble adjusting to the position of the focus ring since it is further back and closer to the body than I am used to.

This lens is really wonderful. It becomes familiar with the camera by an easy-to-use size and moderate weight. It became one of beautiful and the highest lenses at me as for the description. Because I am Japanese, ..English.. I'm sorry ..not good...

I have been looking for a lens in this zoom range for some time now and was excited when Pentax released this to the market. I have had superb results from my Pentax DA 16-45 F4 and was prepared to sacrifice some speed at the long end to gain the benefit of the DC motor drive and weather resistance. The latter has not been tested yet as we are still in Summer. However, the speed of focus and accuracy have me well pleased with this lens. It is compact and quite light making it a perfect walk out lens - one you can use all day without fatigue. Granted the body is plastic but is engineered to a better tolerance than the 16-45 which shows some wobble in the barrel when extended. All in all, I have had, over the last week of ownership and around 400 shots been extremely happy with my purchase. For the price, quality and features, this is a winner! The only negative I have to report is that, when the lens is fitted with both a 62mm UV filter and circular polariser, vignetting is evident from 18mm to 19mm. Simply removing the UV filter in favour of the CP resolves this problem. If you don't use a CP, then fit the UV filter and enjoy using a great lens.

I have this lens and I love it. No it is not a prime it is a zoom. This beats the 18-55 Kit lens hands down. The lens is surprisingly sharp. Yes you do some distortion at the wide end but nothing that can be fixed in post and it is only at the very corners. When shooting in JPEG this can be corrected with the in camera settings. This lens is small, lightweight and the focus is quick and silent. It is so quiet sometimes I can barely hear it focus. It is easy to shoot handheld. The 5.6 aperture setting at the 135 end is a bit slow but for it to be smaller the lens would have to be larger and more expensive. This is simple lens physics-based which means the smaller the aperture the larger the lens. With the higher ISO capabilities of newer DSLR'S the slower apertures have become less of an issue. The weather sealing of this lens is a great asset. You can shoot in almost any weather condition and not worry. There are no other lens of this focal range in this price range that offer this. The lens does have some limitations, all lens do, but nothing serious. Stop the lens down a little at the longer end and you will be fine. In very bright contrast conditions you may find some small purple fringing at the wider apertures. This can be fixed by stopping down or with the on camera settings or very easy in post processing. I have the DA*16-50 as well and I still goto this lens. When on a quick hike or walk I will pair this with the HD 55-300 WR and I only need two lens to cover any focal length I would need. Overall this is an extremely versatile, lightweight lens that is a joy to use on my K3. It is an exceptional value for the price. I rate this lens 4.5 out of 5.

I got this lens for the WR properties and wide focal range. I wanted a lens to use for hiking and backpacking. It has met my expectations well. Haven't noticed any problems with picture quality and it seems very durable and well made. I'm sure many will say that the IQ isn't the best, but for a do it all hiking lens, this is definitely the one to get!

I needed to replace my walk around lens with something something with a little more zoom, this fit well in to my collection. Very sharp, fast AF, solid construction, and takes great photos. The weathers sealing is a great bonus. It rained last weekend and I did not worry since I had this lens on my K-5!

I recently upgraded the body of my Pentax and wanted to also upgrade the lens above what normally comes in a package. This lens now gives me the technology that matches the body and covers a gap between two lenses I already own. Great purchase!
