Because most boardrooms are set up differently, the length of cables available in each room vary. Not all laptops have the mini DisplayPort (mDP) and audio ports positioned on the same side, which can become awkward when you're trying to share your presentations. It can also mean that some ports may be just out of reach during a meeting. This convenient adapter positions your audio and video ports on the same side of your laptop to ensure that all of the ports you need are accessible when you need them.

If the audio port on your mobile device is damaged or blocked by other connections, this convenient adapter guarantees that you'll always have all of the ports you need for every presentation. By connecting audio to your laptop through the adapter, you can be prepared for any situation. In order to use the audio function of the adapter, you need to power the adapter through a USB port on your laptop or through a charge port on a USB grommet. Simply plug a micro-USB cable from the adapter into the USB port and audio will be available when you deliver your presentation.

The adapter can also be used for connecting your laptop or desktop computer to your monitor and speakers. The adapter and connected cables can be placed nicely at the back of your monitor to create a tidy setup between all of your devices.

This mDP to VGA adapter is extremely portable with a lightweight, small footprint design. It's the perfect accessory to carry with your mobile devices, fitting easily into your laptop bag or carrying case. Its ultra-portable design makes the adapter ideal for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) applications at the office. It also enables you to arrive prepared when you're presenting to a potential client, teaching offsite, or traveling to a meet with a customer.

The adapter is compatible with Intel Thunderbolt when connected directly to a supporting DisplayPort over Thunderbolt I/O port, and it supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1200 (WUXGA).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. if my laptop doesn't read cd can you send me the drivers online?

A: Yes, the manufacturers website has them posted at https://www.startech.com/en-us/cards-adapters/icusbaudio7d

Q: 2. Does this work with self-powered microphones? or only with cheaper plug-in power ones (like headset mics). I want to use it with a semi-pro Sony ECM-MS957 which has a stereo 1/8 plug (I can buy an adapter to split to two mono 1/8 plugs). Some interfaces have a capacitor or something inside that charges up and mutes the mic after a minute or so if it's not the plug-in-power type.

A: The StarTech USB Audio Adapter would be compatible with the Sony ECM-MS957 - Stereo Condenser Microphone.

Q: 3. Will this work for an Iphone 4 and above?

A: Yes, the StarTech MUYHSMFF 3.5mm 4-Position to Dual 3-Position Headset Splitter Male / Female Adapter works fine with iPhones.

Q: 4. Hi there;) Is this a viable option for monitoring audio while shooting video on my mirrorless camera? Thanks for any feedback!

A: Yes, so long as you can support audio out of a 3.5mm on your mirrorless camera. The StarTech Headset Adapter would be an ideal solution.

Q: 5. how do you connect this to speakers?

A: Connect to external speakers through 3.5mm mini-jacks or optical S/PDIF.

Q: 6. Will this work with Toshiba KIRA laptop or a Samsung Chromebook XE303C12? I bought some adapters similar to this (should have come to you first!) and they work on my iPad but not on these devices. Maybe something to do with the 3 lines and how they are setup? THANKS! LOVE your site!

A: I bought it to use with the headphone that has built in microphone but it did not work with my laptop Lenovo ThinkPad. I returned it.

Q: 7. Can this device be used to route S/PDIF input to USB output? (I.e. could you record audio on the PC using S/PDIF as the source).

A: I don't think so. The manual says: S/PDIF IN "Notes: The audio signal only passes through to the S/PDIF OUT. The S/PDIF IN port on the Audio Adapter supports two-channel audio, but does not support 5.1 or 7.1 audio." If the digital audio goes only from the optical in to the optical out, and that's pretty worthless and it won't convert to USB. (If the PC has optical in, you wouldn't even need this.)

Q: 8. Will this work with a fujifilm x100v camera? I want to record and monitor audio using a Rhode mic and Senal headphones. I have an adapter to plug the StarTech into the camera's audio mic port.

A: No, the StarTech Headset Adapter will not work as desired with the FUJIFILM X100V Digital Camera. This adapter works with a TRRS input/output connection that is capable of sending signal in both directions simultaneously, commonly found on smartphone and some computer headset connections. The 2.5mm microphone input connection on the X100V is an input only, and will not also send output signal to be monitored via headphones. It is suggested to use the microphone input and headphone output connections of the X100V independently in this scenario.

Q: 9. It says here that it works on Mac but in StarTech web page there are no drives or especification that it works with OSX.Do you think it will work on a Macbook Pro 2013 with OSX 10.10?

A: The answer to your question is a resounding yes. It is fully compatible w/ OSX, I have used it for some time on multiple versions of OSX. I can not however tell you definitively if OSX 10.10 will be an issue. But from my experience w/ this device I highly doubt there will be an issue.Runs great, the only issue I have w/ this device is optical input outputs, not inherently being routable. You may use a 3rd party software i.e. Audio Hijack to accomplish this. Hope this gives you peace of mind. I would highly recommend this device.

Q: 10. does it work with LOGITECH Z607 5.1 SURROUND SOUND SPEAKER SYSTEM WITH BLUETOOTH ?

A: i don't see why not. you will need to provide 3.5mm jack to connect with startech.
