Battery-free tritium phosphor lamps self-illuminate in low-light. The front sight is outlined in black and the rear is non-illuminated metal. Trijicon warrants its green phosphor lamps for a period of 12 years from manufacture date.

The tritium phosphor gas is protected by an aluminum housing and sealed with a sapphire jewel window that also protects the lamp while evenly transmitting the emitted light.

A: We use this for backyard movies and it works brilliantly! The black backing means we can use it earlier in the evening before it’s pitch dark. I tried a white movie backdrop but that required it to be really late at night for the projector to show up. Since I already owned this for photography it was a nice surprise to see how well it worked with our projector.
