Sporting the same warm, silky sonic character that made the NT1 series a go-to studio workhorse for millions, the green NT1 Signature Series Studio Condenser Microphone from RODE is the latest edition of the iconic large-diaphragm mic. With an incredibly low self-noise of 4 dBA and a high SPL handling of 142 dB, the NT1 Signature Series is a versatile Swiss Army knife built to deliver a classic studio sound for a range of applications, from vocal and instrument recording to podcasting, content creation, and voice-over work.

The classic RODE HF6 1" true condenser capsule brings a smooth frequency response and high sensitivity to the table. The internal JFET impedance converter and bipolar output buffer help contribute to the low noise and clean sound. The cardioid pickup pattern helps you avoid unwanted sounds to the rear and sides, a vital feature for podcasting and content creation in untreated spaces. The finish is highly durable, resisting scuffs, scratches, and other physical blemishes that can plague well-used workhorse mics. The NT1 Signature Series includes a 20' XLR cable, an SM6 shockmount and pop filter, and a dust cover.

  • Behind the protective mesh grille, the mic features Rode's 1" gold-sputtered HF6 capsule, designed to provide a detailed midrange response with smooth highs and warm bass
  • The cardioid polar pattern focuses audio capture on the source in front of the mic, picking up less unwanted ambient sound from the back and sides
  • The transducer itself is suspended inside the microphone, using Rycote's industry-leading Lyre system, minimizing external vibrations at the capsule level The capsule is then married to high-grade electronics that have been designed to provide an extremely low noise level. The NT1 Signature Series is an incredibly quiet microphone, measuring only 4 dBA of self-noise
  • The mic is powered by phantom power through the XLR connector

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would the M3 MacBook Pro accept this as a microphone, or do I need to use an interface with it?

A: The RODE HS2 Lightweight Headset Microphone is wired with a TRS locking 1/8" (3.5mm) connector, primarily for use with a compatible wireless transmitter. In order to connect the mic to the MacBook Pro, you would need to use the RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter (B&H # ROVXLRP) and connect the mic to an XLR input on a USB audio interface that can supply phantom power. The adapter will convert the phantom power to the proper amount of voltage to power the mic. If you want to use a microphone that can connect directly to the MacBook Pro without the need for any other hardware, I would recommend the RODE SmartLav+ Lavalier Condenser Microphone for Smartphones with TRRS Connections (B&H # ROSMARTLAVP) together with a headset mount such as the RODE LAVHS-MED Headset Mount for Lavalier Microphones - Medium (B&H # ROLAVHSMED).

Q: 2. Is it compatible with sennheiser transmitters?

A: Yes, the Rode HS2 headset microphoneiioll uses the same 3.5mm locking connector as Sennheiser and can be used with Sennheiser wireless transmitters.

Q: 3. Can I use the Rode HS2 with a Sony UWP D21 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter?

A: No, the RODE HS2 Lightweight Headset Microphone is not compatible for use with the Sony UTX-B40 Wireless Bodypack Transmitter for the Sony UWP-D21 Lavalier Microphone System. The internal wiring on the HS2 is different than the wiring used for Sony transmitters. The HS2 is compatible for use with Sennheiser wireless transmitters, but not with Sony transmitters. As a compatible option, you can use the Sony ECM-322BMP Professional Headworn Microphone (B&H # SOECM322BMP), the Countryman Isomax Omnidirectional Headset Microphone for Sony Wireless Transmitters - 1/8" (3.5mm) Locking-Mini Connector, Beige - (B&H # COMHOW5LSN), the Countryman H6 Omnidirectional Headset with Detachable Cable and 3.5mm Locking Connector for Sony Wireless Transmitters - W7 Band, Beige (B&H # COH6OW7LSN), or the Voice Technologies VT DUPLEX Omni Headset Microphone with 3.5mm TRS Locking Connector for Sony Transmitters - S/M, Beige (B&H # VOVT0594) or L/XL, Beige (B&H # VOVT0588).

Q: 4. Will the mic work with a the Sennheiser 100 ew body pack?

A: Yes

Q: 5. What Rode transmitter is compatible with this? No the wireless go right?

A: The Rode HS2 Headset Mic can be used with any of the Rode wireless transmitters that have a locking or a non-locking 3.5mm TRS input. Rode's tech support has confirmed that the locking ring on the mic's connector is removable so the HS2 can be used with Rode's Wireless GO, Wireless GO II, and RodeLink transmitters, as well as with wireless transmitters from other manufacturers that use the same type of locking 3.5mm TRS connector with Sennheiser style wiring or with recorders like the Zoom F2 and the Tascam DR-10L which both have a locking 3.5mm TRS mic input, and recorders and cameras that have a standard non-locking 3.5mm TRS mic input. Older versions of the HS2 that do not have a removable locking ring can be used with the RodeLink transmitters and other transmitters that have a locking 3.5mm TRS connector with Sennheiser style wiring, as well as with recorders with a locking input like the those mentioned above.

Q: 6. Can I use the mic on my iphone at the same time I am recording iMovie on my phone?

A: This mic will not be available for phone calls while using a recording app.

Q: 7. Can you monitor the recording via Bluetooth headphones connected to the phone? Particularly iPhones, but any insight is welcome.

A: You would need the Rode SC6 to be able to monitor your recording while using the Rode Smartlav in a smartphone.

Q: 8. The Rode Rec App is not available in Canada. Is there another app that I should use that can lower the db?

A: You would be able to use the Rode Reporter app. With this Rode smartLav+ Lavalier Condenser Microphone Kit with SC3 3.5mm TRRS to TRS Adapter

Q: 9. Can the Rode Hs2 be used as the Rode Wireless Go?

A: Hello Wemerson. The Rode HS2 now has a locking nut that works for the RodeLink systems, however the Wireless Go doesn't have the locking connection. To use the HS2 with the Wireless Go, simply remove the locking nut and store it for later.

Q: 10. Would this work well for interviews on a boom? As well as off camera audio for YouTube videos? Thanks

A: It probably wouldn't work very well. It's not a shotgun it's just a condenser mic. It will not have the distance that a shotgun would. Nor will the polar pattern be the same.

While I've only used the microphone a few times, I'm impressed. Specifically, the mic feels sturdy and sounds great via the Rode Reporter app on my iOS device. Likewise, the clip has a little notch that makes dressing the cable a breeze-that's probably my favorite part. Truthfully, the mic does not hide very well but I'm looking forward to trying it with the Rode invisiLav Discreet Lavalier Mounting System to help with that.

I'm a really big fan of this product. I produce wedding videos and this is what I use to mic up the groom during the vows. It's super convenient to have the whole system confined to my phone. It's easy for the groom to hide the phone in his jacket pocket, and it's easy for me to simply upload the audio to DropBox to retrieve later on my computer.

Been using this for quite some time now without any real complaints. I did break my clip and need to get more, but thats it. I wanted to give it 4 stars cause its not the smallest mic, but that in of itself is not worth a hole star. So 4.5

I found that this mic works great outside. It picked up some birds chirping, but the voice came through very clear. In the settings, I am still trying to figure out how to adjust the mic gain and digital boost to get louder levels without distortion. The app in nice for this sort of setting. The app upgrade pops up a lot, I found that rather annoying when trying to set it up, but perhaps the purchase of the upgrade will help me get the the right levels.
