Western Digital's exclusive NASware technology fine tunes drive parameters to match NAS system workloads, which helps increase performance and reliability.

WD Red Pro hard drives are designed to handle the rigorous demands of high-intensity 24/7 multi-user NAS environments and increase system durability.

Western Digital partners with a wide range of NAS system vendors for extensive testing to ensure compatibility with most NAS enclosures.

WD Red Pro drives include Rotation Vibration (RV) sensors that anticipate and proactively counteract disturbances caused by increased vibration. By dispersing excess vibration across the drive chassis, turbulence is minimized, performance is maintained, and drives are protected.

WD Red Pro hard drives include a multi-axis shock sensor to detect subtle shock events and automatically compensate with dynamic fly height technology to further protect the drives in NAS enclosures.

Western Digital stands behind their NAS storage solutions with the assurance of a limited 5-year limited warranty and world-class support services for hassle free data storage.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this a Cmr or Smr drive?

A: This 4TB WD hard drive would be CMR.

Q: 2. Does the OEM drive come with the same 5 year warranty that the retail kits come with from WD?

A: Yes, this drive comes with the same warranty as the retail kit. It carries a 5-Year Limited Warranty against defects from Western Digital.

Q: 3. Which drives are installed in WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2, the Red or Red Pro?

A: They would be the standard WD red hard drives.

Q: 4. can this be used as a spare for wd 4100 16 tb?

A: I believe the WD 4100 comes with 5400rpm drives (model# WD40EFRX). They're a little cheaper.

Q: 5. can I use this drive in my new iMac?

A: While this drive will install, and boot in the new iMac it does not have Apples thermal sensor. Because of this the fans in the iMac will always run at 100% and I would not recommend it as an upgrade. Also note that the new iMacs are very difficult to open for the upgrade.

Q: 6. Western digital

A: Yes it is a Western Digital drive.

Q: 7. If I replace the WD Red NAS 5400 RPM drives in a My Cloud EX2 Ultra with these, how much of a performance difference can I reasonably expect to see?

A: Almost no difference, unless you're using these drives as regular OS drives, where application read/write speed is more critical. If building a NAS I would recommend 5400s, the read speed is fine for streaming, they last longer than 7200s on average, and they're usually cheaper. I got these 7200 at a great price, so it made sense for me at the time.

Q: 8. Are 18TB Red Pro #WD181KFGX compatible with Synology DS923+?

A: The WD 18TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD with the part number WD181KFGX-SPAFPN0 is not on Synology's official compatibility list. This does not mean it won't work with the DS923+, but it does mean that Synology reserves the right to deny you service if you use this drive. Synology also reserves the right to change the list at any time.

Q: 9. So the price difference between the OEM and Retail versions is only for the box?

A: The price difference of a OEM and the retail version is just going to be for the box. You either receive the full item in it's retail box or just the drive itself.

Q: 10. Is WD12TB Red Pro compatible with Synology DS920+? Thanks.

A: Yes, the WD12TB Red Pro is compatible with Synology DS920+.

Added two 6TB RED 7200 RPM WD drives to our NAS. It was second set setup in RAID-1 format. Work, very well. No issues. Good response, and very easy to install. Would recommend anytime.

I used these drives to upgrade my Synology NAS and it went without any problems. The drives are working as expected and are relatively quiet. I looked at all the specials on all the other drives and decided that the reputation of WD drives was worth the extra money. I have used WD drives for years and have excellent experience with them.

I've been using this drive in a web server environment for a year or so. It does what it does well.

I installed these 6 TB drives in a Synology DS1815+ . They operate quietly , low themperature , and are fast ( I get up to 125 MB/s with my setup). The 5 years warranty is a plus. They are more cost effective ways to store large amount of data , but at my acceptable risk level, these drives provide the best solution I could find today .
