The Canon EF mount Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens is a prime standard wide-angle lens designed for both full-frame and APS-C sized sensors; when used with an APS-C sensor the 35mm-equivalent focal length is 56mm. It is well-suited to working in a variety of situations ranging from landscape to portraiture. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions and for greater control over selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.

Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to produce sharper images. A UMC coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

This lens also incorporates an AE microprocessor that enables the camera to electronically confirm focus as well as permit camera-based control over exposure settings.

When used with full-frame image sensors, this lens' wide-angle perspective is well-suited to use in a broad array of conditions. When used with APS-C-sized sensors, this 56mm equivalent standard prime lens provides a similar field of view to normal vision.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focus placement for shallow depth of field applications.

Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element reduce chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and clarity.

UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.

An AE microprocessor is incorporated within this lens' design, which enables camera-based control over exposure settings and also permits in-camera manual focus confirmation.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this the same as the Rokiton that is $50 less?

A: Yes this is the same as the Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F (AE Chip) though prices may change over time.

Q: 2. is it Auto Focus? Can you please suggest any lens 35mm with Auto Focus.

A: Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Canon EF (AE Chip) doesn't have autofocus. This Tamron SP 35mm f/1.4 Di USD Lens for Canon EF is a great option with autofocus. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1461528-REG/tamron_aff045c_700_sp_35mm_f_1_4_di.html

Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with the Metabones Speedbooster adapter (i.e. can I control the aperture through the metabones speedbooster)?

A: A Metabones Speedbooster smart adapter will control the aperture on this lens.

Q: 4. is this compatible with the rebel t7i?

A: The Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Canon EF is a manual focus only lens that is compatible with the Canon Rebel T7i.

Q: 5. is this works on Nikon d810 for Astro photography??? SPL for milkyways and landscapes ??

A: As you own a full-frame camera, yes, the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F (AE Chip) may be used on the Nikon D810 DSLR camera to photograph the Milky Way. However, I say that with a caveat. 35mm is normally the shortest wide angle lens that is typically recommended for use when trying to photograph the Milky Way with a full-frame camera for two main reasons: First, it is one of the shortest focal lengths that will still allow you to capture a majority of the Milky Way. Second, with shorter wide angle lenses, you have a shorter amount of time before the rotation of the Earth starts to cause star trails, which can make your image look slightly blurry. It simply depends on what you are trying to capture. The Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon, B&H # SA2414AEN, may allow you to capture more of the landscape and the Milky Way, and allow you to have longer exposure times to capture detail before incurring star trail issues, but it is a personal preference.

Q: 6. Does this show focus metering?

A: We believe you are asking if there is any electronic focus confirmation with this lens and any camera it is used with. Unfortunately no, for this lens does not have an electronic connection with the camera.

Q: 7. is the focal throw is good for video or better to buy the cine version ?

A: The focus throw is quite long on this lens. The benefit of the Cine version would be its follow focus gears, but we find both lens to be acceptable for versatile use.

Q: 8. is it compatible with canon eos500N ( film camera / not digital ) ?

A: Yes, the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Canon EF should be compatible for use on the Canon EOS 500N 35mm Film DSLR camera. Do note that this is a fully manual focus lens, so you will have to set the focus and aperture manually on the lens. You would have to use the camera in either Aperture-Priority or full Manual mode, as the Full Automatic, Time Value (Shutter-Priority) mode, and the Scene Modes will not work with a manual lens.

Q: 9. Do u send to Mexico??

A: We can ship this lend worldwide.

Q: 10. does it fits the NikonD3300? if no is there are similar lens specs that would fit D3300?

A: It will fit and will be manual focus only.

I've only had this lens for a short while, and have used it for a few portrait shots. I am very impressed. The build quality is excellent, especially considering the price. The focus ring operates very smoothly, something I cannot say about my Pentax DA* 16-50 f/2.8 which cost four times what I paid for the Rokinon. Nice bokeh, beautiful colors and contrast, tack sharp, and a great price. What's not to like?

I'm a beginner. Shoot with a k-1. Started with the pentax 31mm. Realized I needed a portrait lens, so I invested in this lens. So....when I think I need my 31mm lens on for the shot, I end up putting on my 85 and leaving it on my camera for the day. I love this lens, conditions permitting, I will use it over my pentax lens everytime. I like the manual focus believe it or not, I hate the auto focus always focusing on the wrong spot, it could be a foot in front of or behind your subject which effects your photo, especially when shooting wide open. I don't shoot sports, or spontaneously, I find my subject and go from there, so manual focus is fine with me...I prefer it. But, like I said I'm a beginner. Definitely money well spent. Thanks for reading. I never review anything, but was on here looking for a 100mm, and am actually thinking bout goin rokinon over pentax even though the pentax 100 is on sale, and is autofocus over the manual rokinon, that alone should say something bout this lens. Heres a pic

I've been a DSLR user since 2005, and I've always loved the shallow DOF and pixel quality of the FF cameras. In the last few years, we've expanded our family and now have two children. Having kids was the best thing we ever did, but the big and heavy DSLR + 70-200 ish lenses are just to much of a burden to take along....The oldest (4 yrs) hates having her picture taken, so subject distance is important if I want to get anything useful. I now shoot with a EM5 MK2 camera and this lens. I find the lens perfectly 100% usable at f1.4, and focus peaking makes the lens a dream to use. Some fringing is inevitable at 1.4, but one click in lightroom and it's gone. I love the BG separation this lens gives me, its so flattering and the u43 sensor being smaller is, to me, and advantages at it lets more of the subject be in focus. Highly recommended!

Great lens for a even greater price. No. It's no Zeiss optics but for the money you can really get some beautiful portraits. Colors render a bit in the flat side but easily corrected in post. Overall a great buy.

Amazing lens. Well worth the price. I primarily use this lens for weddings. Weddings tend to have dim lighting so I love primes. This was a great prime to add to my collection. The 1.4 F Stop makes everything look great.

First off, this thing is hefty, but in a good way. You are getting 1.4 after all. For comparison, it's a little heaver than my DA 55-300. It's a joy to handle. The focus ring is smooth and nicely damped. The build quality is excellent in my opinion (I can't compare to DA*) and the plastic housing is of very similar composition to my K50 body, texture and all. IC at 1.4 is on par with my PANTAX-A 50mm 1.7 at 2.8. And it only gets sharper as you stop down. Fringing is noticeable in highlights at 1.4 but this was expected. It does have the A setting on the aperture ring so it'll work with all exposure modes. The lens hood is sturdy and made of the same plastic as the body, although it has a very very small amount of lateral play and can make a rattling sound if you shake you body (but why would you do that?). It locks on tight with no signs that it could be accidentally dislodged. I've been very impressed with it so far. The only caveat is the min focusing distance of about 3 ft.

I picked this up because I really needed a full frame 85mm for my A7 without breaking the bank, and even though the mark 1 doesn't have IS this lens is very sharp handheld. Fringing and aberrations are there, but those can be removed in post and the lens hood helps some. Focus peaking is your best friend when it comes to manual lenses like this you'll need it if you want usable results.
