A: Hi, I bought this D-ring about six months ago thinking I would be able to switch between plates and move my camera from my tripod to my gimbal quickly. Unfortunately the head on this D-ring was to thick and wouldn't give me enough clearance between the plate and the tripod head. This was just my experience with this product. Maybe you'll have better luck. I was also using the 504 long.

A: Yes, It's a standard size and will fit the QR attachment plates. Those plates should fit almost all ball heads except for Manfrotto and RRS (Really Right Stuff) which has their own size of plates which might require something else although it might fit them also. However, the 1/4 -20 is standard for a ton of things.
