Distinguished by its fast design, the XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR from FUJIFILM is a general wide-angle prime offering a 35mm equivalent focal length. Ideally suited to discerning street, wedding, editorial, and documentary photographers, the lens's bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and enables greater control over depth of field for isolating subject matter. The optical design incorporates two aspherical elements, which helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations, and three ED elements have also been applied to produce a superior image with high contrast and sharpness. Additionally, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm is featured, and contributes a smooth bokeh quality.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the previous hood (LH-XF23) for the 23mm f/1.4 fit this lens?

A: No. Please review the following items. FUJIFILM LH-XF23 Lens Hood for XF 23mm f/1.4 R B&H # FULHXF23 MFR # 16519560 https://bhpho.to/3f6fwY5 Vello LHF-XF23 Dedicated Lens Hood B&H # VELHFXF23 MFR # LHF-XF23 https://bhpho.to/34ELh8V

Q: 2. Will this be a good "All-around" performing lens for my new FUJIFILM X-T5 ? This will be my first lens.

A: This is a great prime for a "normal" angle of view yes. This would be similar to what your eye sees.

Q: 3. Can someone recommend a neoprene case that would fit this attached to an X-T3?

A: There are a few neoprene cases that will fit the X-t3 with the XF 23mm lens attached. This is some option, https://bhpho.to/41w66uF .

Q: 4. I am mainly a flowers, landscape, sunset kind of guy. I will jump into the Fuji medium format very soon. What 2 or 3 lenses would be best for my prefered subjects?

A: The FUJIFILM GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR Lens, B&H # FU234RWR, would be a good lens option for landscape images and sunset images of landscapes. To photograph close-up images of flowers, a macro lens such as the FUJIFILM GF 120mm f/4 Macro R LM OIS WR Lens, B&H # FU1204LMWR, would be a good option. For regular images of flowers (not necessarily close-up images), the FUJIFILM GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR Lens, B&H # FU6328RWR, would be a good option for your usage needs.

Q: 5. How large are the pixels in the Fuji GFX-50?

A: 5.2 micrometers (microns)

Q: 6. How much does it block the ovf of an x pro 3? Would love to use this as a walk-around setup

A: You would need to use the EVF on the XPro 3 with the FUJIFILM XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens.

Q: 7. Just got this lens and there's a clunk-like sound when the lens is turned upside down, as if something is moving inside. Is this sound normal for lens?

A: Yes it is normal. FUJIFILM XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens uses linear motors that use magnets to change the focus. When the lens is off the glass can move around and make that noise.

Q: 8. Would this be a good travel lens? The older 1.4 was very light and compact.

A: The FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens will be an excellent travel lens as many photographers find the 35 mm (on a 35 mm) focal length ideal for travel. The lens offers exceptional details, sharpness, and weather sealing.

Q: 9. Does this vignette when using an 82-77 step down ring and the Formatt Hitech Firecrest 85mm square filters (with the new style holder)?

A: Yes, the step-down ring 82-77mm will create vignetting on the FUJIFILM GF 23mm f/4 R LM WR Lens which is equivalent to the angle of view of an 18mm lens (35mm). The vignette will increment if a square filter holder system is attached in front of the lens.

Q: 10. Help with selection. Voigtlander Nokton 23/1.4 or Fujifilm XF 23mm F/1.4 LM WR?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for FUJIFILM X is a manual lens and the FUJIFILM XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR Lens supports autofocus. So most prefer a lens with autofocus and would go with the Fujifilm brand one.

I've been shooting with the original XF23mm f/1.4 from the time it first came out, and I've been pretty happy with the image quality I've gotten from it. However, the autofocus has caused me to miss quite a few shots. I've also use the XF23mm f/2, which solves most autofocus issues but is lacking in image quality. I purchased the XF33mm f/1.4 and was absolutely thrilled with both the autofocus and image quality. Because of this experience, I was super eager to pull the trigger on the new XF23mm f/1.4 LM WR. In a nutshell, the new 23mm is hands down my favorite lens out of all the Fuji glass in my bag. From images quality to autofocus to color, this lens is absolutely superb! My other two 23mm's will be finding new homes in the very near future. I have no regrets with this decision!

It came really fast! I haven't got time to use it properly yet, but I'm already in love! A bit heavy for me.
Used previous lens 23mm 1.4R before buying this one.

When it comes to image quality, I have some fairly high expectations. Prior to dipping my toes into fuji land I had (and still have) the nikon D850, D810 and numerous gold ring nikon glass that was some of the best they ever made for their f mount lineup. Because of this I waa hesitant to jump back to a crop sensor (X-T4) and this lens, but i took the plunge as I wanted a fun every day camera for family and light travel stuff. Needless to say, this lens has blown my expectations out of the water!! It's insanely sharp at all apertures throughout the entire frame and has no CA issues whatsoever. I have never experienced a crop sensor camera and lens combo this disgustingly good. To the point where I've considered selling my nikon gear as it does far more dust collecting nowadays! Now it's time for me to go post this same review on the fuji 33 1.4 LM lens as that one is equally as incredible! Safe to say that fuji has blown me away with these beautiful works of art! Keep up the great work fuji!!!

Fuji's brand new classical 35mm equal lense is a big jump! The autofocus is fast and the image quality is impeccable.

This lens is legendary. Sharp and contrasty wide open at f/1.4, improves through f/2-2/8 or so and still great at f/11. This is probably the best my 26mp sensor can look - in good light this lens is stunning and sharp. Great bokeh (very slight, typically unimportant onion ringing, however, when you PEEP).

Close focusing - I love lenses that focus close and get good magnification like this one. It is a quasi macro type experience that makes it more flexible. Plus, I don't have to worry I'll put it into a hunting/focusing fit because a subject moved within the MFD.

AF is fast and accurate, linear motor is nearly silent. I think I'm getting higher hit rates and good focusing speed relative to other Fuji lenses, even in crappier light. That alone makes this lens a go-to compared to others I own.

Lens is pretty small and light, but feels solid in hand - no issues bumping rings, stores well, well fitting lens hood. Great quality feel overall. Solid clicks from the aperture ring, manual focus ring is well damped (not too slow, or too fast). Aperture ring seems pointless however - it only locks the camera into auto.

The only con is the high price - $900 is a lot to swallow for what this is, ultimately. Used at around $700 this lens is a better value. Overall, however, this lens is practically a must-buy, and certainly the best 23mm in the Fuji system at the moment.

Sharp lens with lots of detail. The weather sealing is a big plus as well. Explore your creativity in 23 millimeters.

Great sharpness, nice contrast and a large manual focus ring.
Bought this lens in anticipation of the Fuji X-T4 compatibility...
Too soon to give it any further reviews as I just received it not long ago.

This is an awesome replacement for an already awesome lens. The old 23mm was an incredible lens and this one brings the same image quality and some extras to the table including weather sealing and linear and silent motor. The weather sealing might not be a selling point for those with not weather sealed cameras, but it will help with the dust.

This focal length widely known as the most commonly used length in photography and Fuji has already taken two cracks at it, the earlier 1.4, the f2, and now the optically highly corrected 1.4 LM WR. "Stunning," performance as what I expected and kind of wonder why Fuji didn't produce this earlier on. Love the lens, I'm putting through landscape trials as I speak. I'm amazed at the lenses ability in bokeh. Why one 1.4 would outperform another 1.4 in the bokeh department, I don't know. Yet.

A fast prime that allows you to get very close to your subject. Extremely sharp details are possible with this lens.
