Kodak's Professional Portra 800 is a high-speed, daylight-balanced color negative film optimized for use in difficult lighting conditions. It has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 800/30° along with a notable underexposure latitude for effectively pushing to ISO 1600 with maintained quality and extended highlight and shadow detail. Vivid color saturation and low-overall contrast contribute to pleasing skin tones and neutral color accuracy, and a micro-structure optimized T-GRAIN emulsion renders a fine grain structure with high sharpness and edge acutance. Kodak's proprietary advanced development accelerators and antenna dye sensitization also offer enhanced scanning and enlarging performance. Portra 800 is very well suited to photographing moving subjects and working in low-light conditions while maintaining true color reproduction.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the expiration date? The picture shows May 2011?

A: B&H buys and sells film in bulk. In general we regularly maintain fresh film stock. All of our film is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime film stock is less than 6 months from expiration we sell it in a separate section and label it as short-dated film and also price it with a slight discount (again due to the volumes we sell this rarely occurs). Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our films prior to purchase.

Q: 2. I used this film with Mamiya 645 and Sekonic L-308X-U on a daylight, i sat my light meter to 400 ISO, am following the light meter readings and i still getting under exposed images, what u think is my problem.

A: Most probably your light meter is off and needs calibration.

Q: 3. What is the color temp of this film?

A: Kodak Portra film, including the Kodak Portra 800 120 Professional Color Print Film is daylight balanced. The color temperature for daylight is 5500 Kelvin.

Q: 4. Will this work for canon prima super 135

A: Yes, your camera will use this 35mm film, and Portra 400 has a great look so think you will enjoy it.

Q: 5. Will this work with Vivitar PS 88

A: Yes, it will work with the Vivitar PS 88.

Q: 6. How many pictures can you take with 1 roll?

A: It depends on the camera but it's usually 8-12 photos.

Q: 7. Will this work for a Canon sure shot 130U?

A: 120 film won't work for that camera. That camera would require 35mm film.

Q: 8. Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about Portra 160 VC or NC. Can anyone suggest a color negative 120 film size equivalent to Fuji Velvia? I'm looking for vivid, saturated color and fine grain. Is Portra 160 the best bet these days? Thanks!

A: For color neg I would suggest Ektar 100. High color saturation and extremely fine grain. It looks really nice pushed to 400. Portra 160 also looks amazing pushed to 320 or overexpose a stop or so.

Q: 9. Does the film have frame numbers on the backing paper? I'm using old folding cameras.

A: Yes, the following film does offer a number backing.

Q: 10. What kind of film camera can be paired with this film roll? It's longer and skinner than all the camera film compartments I have found. If you have any recommendations for a camera that would be helpful!

A: Kodak Professional Portra 160 Color Negative Film is a 120 medium format film. Most medium format cameras are no longer being produce or sale as new cameras. Some of the most popular brands for these cameras are Hasselblad, Mamiya, RolleiFlex, Linhof,Pentax and Bronica. Holga used to make affordable plastic cameras for creative photographers.

Kodak got it right! This film responds well to low light and is gorgous. A little grainy but it is 800 speed film.

I use this film for both low light hand held shooting, and when i think i may convert my colour images to black and white. I find the grain quite pleasant in it's conversion to black and white, but a bit on the high side for big reproductions in colour. That being said, this film has many uses and it's all in what you want and the effect you want to achive.

I shoot weddings completely in film. This film, albeit only available in 120, is such a versatile film. I can walk inside and shoot with no problem and walk outside and overexpose the snot out of it (1.5-2 stops) and have wonderful, wonderful results. Creamy skin tones and with the right scan engineer, produces impeccable results. The grain as well is pretty fine.
