Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does any P-Tap output battery work?

A: Hi Andrew, I would think so as long as the power out specs match the Astra requirements. I use Anton-Baur Digital 90s. Love my Astra's but get the DoP soft boxes and grids, not the ones made by Chimera.

Q: 2. How does this Astra E model differ from the EP model?

A: The E has about half of the intensity of the EP. In comparison to the original Litepanels 1x1, it is equal to its output while the EP is 2x the output of the original 1x1. Hope this helps.

Q: 3. CRI?

A: According to Litepanels, they estimate the CRI of this unit to be in the range of 90-93.

Q: 4. Which version of the Astra Bi-Color line is this Astra Soft based on, before diffusion, LED power wise? Or is it unique? The E version (Same Power of Original 1x1), the EP version (2x Power of Original 1x1), or the newest unlabeled version that is 4x Power of Original 1x1 version? And why are the specs the lowest, the price the highest, despite the model being the newest? Is that all diffusion? Which is of course needed no matter what...

A: The Astra Soft Bi-Color is using and powering the same LEDs as the unlabeled 4x power Astra 1x1 Bi-Color. Because there is a medium diffusion built in to the front of these LEDs, the light has a wider beam angle (90) in contrast to the the 4x Astra that is throwing the illumination further with a tighter beam angle (45)

Q: 5. will this grid fit the TRP WORLDWIDE Snapbag for Litepanels Gemini 1x1 Soft LED Panel?

A: This is designed for the Litepanels Gemini 1x1 Snapbag.

Q: 6. Any specs for this unit? I see nothing..

A: Until the web team is able to write up the description all information can be found here:a href= http://www.litepanels.com/astra_1x1_bicolor.php target= _blank http://www.litepanels.com/astra_1x1_bicolor.php/a

Q: 7. Wondering if anyone has any insight on the direct mount grid vs. the snapbag + larger grid? Obviously larger surface area / softer and more money, but I am trying to decide between the two and am looking to hear anyone's experience. Thanks!

A: Since the Litepanels Snapgrid for Gemini Dual 2x1 LED Panel (40 Degrees), is directly in front on the fixture, it has a more pronounced Beam Spread, & Minimizes Spill Light. It provides much more directional control which facilitates more precise & selective lighting.

Q: 8. What kind of light stands does it come with?

A: The stands are the 8.5' LItePanels 900-3031. They are pretty lightweight aluminum. I would definitely recommend some sandbags if you plan on raising them up very far, but they are sturdy enough for these lightweight LED panels. I purchased the kit back in November and am extremely happy with it. Again, the stands could be sturdier, but you can always upgrade them later if you choose.

Q: 9. I would be mainly using these battery powered, so I am leaning towards the EPs because the other Astras (4x brighter) will drain batteries faster a lot faster, correct? Also, to get the 4x up to full power using batteries, let's say Anton Bauers, I'd have to get the digital 150s as opposed to the Digital 90s. I think the EPs drain 55W and the 4x brighter ones drain 110W. That seems like I would be going through a ton more batteries going with the 4x brighter Astras as opposed to the EPs, and batteries wouldn't last nearly as long. Can someone check my logic?

A: I would go with the brighter light. You will need the larger battery but the draw is very small and they last an amazingly long time. you will be very happy you went with the brighter light if you go that route. If you go with a small battery you can always turn the fan off and the Astra will run at 50% brightness if you want to conserve battery and can make due with a dimmer light. But if you have a big batt or plug in you will always have the extra punch if you need it.

Q: 10. Anyone have experience putting these in a SnapBag or Chimera built for them? Curious if the Soft Astra has advantages in a soft box over the regular Astras.

A: I use this one as is, without any softbox, and love it. It gives a far stonger ans softer light than the regular astras.

Love that you can charge two batteries at a time and see the progress.

Rating is based on short experience - this multi-purpose device handles several types of camera batteries that I typically travel with, saving separate chargers. However, it is on the heavy side by itself, and with the multiple plates for different battery types. The weight must be taken in the context of at least two of the manufacturers' chargers for my principal batteries, since I always travel with backups and need multiple chargers simultaneously for some. However, although this takes care of two batteries at once, I still need at least one backup charger just in case. The charge indicator is particularly nice, since I sometimes want to only partially charge a battery destined for storage. Altogether, it seems an excellent find for heavy battery use. Hopefully it will prove highly reliable and I can dispense with the backups entirely.

Works well. I use for 2 sizes of Fuji batteries and for Nikon. I like that you can see the level of charge in the batteries. It actually fixed my Fuji batteries that seemed to be draining quickly. I no longer use the Fuji chargers that came with my cameras. So far, faster and more reliable than the originals.

Absolutely a terrific product. Charges my batteries faster than the charger the manufacturer provided. It can handle multiple types of batteries. This is great since now if I travel with two cameras it can handle both batteries at one time.

Seriously, this thing is great. Just plop in up to 2 batteries, tells you their status and juices them up. They still have a good load, just take out the battery and skip the charge. Very easy to manage your set of batteries. Clear indication of battery status no reading, arcane, flashing / not flashing, is that amber or orange.... Works well in car also and does not require a power brick just a universal 2 prong power cord. Charging is quick but not overly (quicker = less battery life due to the heat). I have use mine with Fujifilm X I understand other adaptors are available. Most fujifilm users have or should have multiple batteries: I Higly recommended this

Needed something to charge my multiple Fuji/Watson batteries quickly on the road. This does it in a fraction of the time than the standard issue Fuji chargers do.
