Light — Science and Magic from Focal Press provides you with a comprehensive theory of the nature and principles of light, with examples and instructions for practical application. Featuring photographs, diagrams, and step-by-step instructions, this book speaks to photographers of varying levels. It provides invaluable information on how to light the most difficult subjects, such as surfaces, metal, glass, liquids, extremes (black-on-black and white-on-white), and portraits.

This updated edition includes expanded chapters on portraiture and lighting equipment, necessary equipment when working on location versus in the studio, an updated appendix of reliable photo gear sources, over 100 new photographs and informational sidebars, and updated information about advances in flash equipment, LED panels, and fluorescent lights.

Photographic lighting is a topic that will never go out of style, no matter how sophisticated cameras and other technology get. Even with the most high tech gear, photographers still need to put a lot of thought and vision into lighting their photographs in order to get great results. Mastering this key skill has the power to dramatically and quickly improve your photographs as well as your efficiency. Lighting styles will evolve, but the science of light will always remain the same. Once photographers understand the basic physics of lighting (without having to become physicists), they can apply that knowledge to a broad range of photographic styles.

Light — Science and Magic is written by photographers Fil Hunter, Steven Biver, Paul Fuqua, and Robin Reid.

A: Starting in September 2020 each set of Rogue Flash Gels was packaged to include 3x Rogue Gel Bands to attach the gels to a flash, including 2x Blue (standard size flashes) and 1x Gold (small flashes). The Blue Rogue Gel Band is sized for standard size flashes, including the Canon 430EX, Canon 580EX, Godox V860, Nikon SB 500, Nikon SB910, etc. The Gold Rogue Gel Band is sized for small mirrorless camera flashes, including the Godox TT350, Nissin i400, Nissin i40, etc. The Rogue Flash Gels will be larger than necessary to cover the face of the Godox TT350 flash, but they can be easily trimmed or creased as desired. Q: 8. I recently purchases a Canon EOS 650 film camera and I am looking for a zoom lens for it. Can you make any recommendations?

A: For the record the Canon EOS T4i/650 is a digital, not film, camera. It has an APS-C sized sensor. I suggest one of either two entry level kit lenses. These cover the most needed focal lengths and are very versatile. The Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Lens B&H # CA1855EFS covers the basic focal lengths and is good image quality lens. If you wish a little more focal length reach you should consider the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens (White Box) B&H # CA18135STMWB.

Q: 9. Will these fit a Nikon SB-900?

A: This is a great kit. And yes it will fit.... The kit comes with a rubber band that that expands over the largest eat strobes and comes in a really nice envelope that divides the various colors... Another great feature is that each gel tells you the f differential so you have a starting point to correct your exposure

Q: 10. What, if any, are the differences between this and the "BH #MAMBPLLW97W2 / MFR #MB PL-LW-97W-2" besides the overall length (5 inches)? Would like to know if there's anything else I should consider in choosing between the two...

A: The main difference is in the size of the two cases.

Greatly improved results using these gels with my Canon 580 II Speedlight. Colors are much improved and a small price to pay for the results.

There are hundreds of flash colour correction gels out there, so why pick one of the most expensive ones? This one comes with a very well organized case, listing the name of the filter, the colour, and the f/stop light loss from the flash when using the filter. Filters are clearly marked with the f/stop light loss as well. The set of filters also includes a High tech rubber band to attach them to your flash. I would never consider other flash filter systems that need tape to attach them to a $ speedlight.Overall, these are excellent quality filters and well worth the extra cost for the convenience and overall quality that you get.

I have yet to test every color and color combination but so far these are great. Rogue makes great products and this continues that tradition. I am interested in trying out some of the other brands but for the price, this package cannot be beat. The kit includes the filter holder and a band to secure the gel to your flash.

This kit is perfect. It has everything you could want in a gel kit. It has details written on each gel and we'll organized. It also comes with a good set of instructions that tell you what to combine to adjust your flash for a proper white balance.
