Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone used two of these Westcott umbrella diffusers on the same umbrella for super soft, diffused light? I know that you lose about a stop of light per diffuser and that's not an issue. Thank you.

A: Using two diffusers would have little effect on softening the light further as softness is a result of the size of the modifier, the distance from the subject and the evenness of the spread of light over the diffusion surface. Since there would be little or no separation between the two fabrics (such as with an inner baffle on a softbox) to further spread the light, little benefit other than the loss of light you mentioned would result. A better option would be to choose an umbrella with a white inner surface which projects a more evenly distributed light initially and combining it with the diffuser.

Q: 2. Could this be used on a Neewer 72" parabolic umbrella?

A: This was designed for a 7' umbrella.

Q: 3. What size is the umbrella shaft? Will it fit a profoto B1?

A: The shaft is exactly 27 I used it previously on Profoto D1 and Alienbees without any issues.

Q: 4. Is this half stop diffusion enough to eliminate any hot spots from a silver umbrella? Has anyone used 2 diffusers stacked together?

A: The diffuser can be used with a variety of umbrellas. Due to the subtle differences in shape and reflective material used the diffusers ability to soften the light will vary some. Overall it works well. Stacking two diffusers with out an air gap will not drastically change any potential hotspots though it will lower the overall output.

Q: 5. how wide is this umbrella diffuser edge to edge please?

A: 84" edge to edge.

Q: 6. Can someone tell me the nature of the fabric used in this diffuser. Is it cotton or a synthetic ? Is it something that will rip very easily?

A: The following is a synthetic translucent light modifier that fits over the Parabolic Umbrella and converts it to a large softbox with just a 1/2 stop loss of output.

Q: 7. Will this item work with hot lights?

A: Depends on the 'hot' aspect of the light. If you are talking about LEDs or flourescent lights, yes. If you are talking about incandescent or halogen I would not recommend this.

Q: 8. I'm looking for a reflector like this for the Westcott 45" shoot-through umbrella. Will this 51" be too big?

A: Yes, the Godox Black and Silver Diffuser for 51" Parabolic Umbrellas is 6" larger than the Westcott Optical White Satin Diffusion Umbrella (45"). It will not give you the same effects if it is too big and sags.

Q: 9. this diffuser works with this Impact White Translucent Umbrella (43 ) ?a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/665617-REG/Impact_EX100_Ultimate_Creative_Portrait.html target= _blank http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/665617-REG/Impact_EX100_Ultimate_Creative_Portrait.html/a

A: No. This diffuser is specifically designed for a 7' (84 ) umbrella and it works great for that.

Q: 10. Hey there, between silver or white interior, which is the best choice?

A: There is no best its all situational. White is softer and Silver is brighter.

The light seems to spread a lot better with this diffuser and the silver parabolic umbrella. I initially had 3 speedlights attached to Impact FA-300HS Triple-Flash Hot Shoe Adapter Mount, but this diffuser would only allow one flash to go through the hole. I guess you need the Wescott umbrella triple flash mount to get 3 speedlights into this set-up. Anyway, I went back to using one speedlight and realized that now the entire umbrella is filled with light. Can't wait to try it out on a job.

Adding the diffuser to the parabolic umbrella gives you a 7-foot octabank for about 1/5 the cost. Great light. Easy to set up. Doesn't break the bank.
