The MB-D18 gives an additional two frames per second and a huge increase in battery life when you use the EN EL 18a battery.

The unit is easily attached to the D-850 and it feels very secure. �The increased shooting rate is noticeable. �The function Button is handy. �Prior to using this devise I often found the camera �was not naturally aligning for vertical oriented shots because using back button focusing made me turn my wrist at an angle . �Using the battery pack and the AF button on it makes vertically oriented shots naturally align properly. Although the camera is heavier, it is more comfortable to shoot vertically. �A minor complaint would be the really right stuff footplate for my 70-200mm lens hits my fingers when shooting vertically with the plate unless I remove the plate or rotate it. ( I tried the Nikon footplate that came with the 70-200 lens and it is small enough that it doesn't impinge on my fingers.) I also wish �there was a built in place to store the small plastic cover for the terminals of the battery pack since whatever can be lost , will get lost. �(The rubber cover for the camera contacts does store in the device nicely.). If you plan to leave the battery pack on all the time this plastic cover for the battery pack terminals wouldn't matter. �The final thing of concern would be Nikon. �I ordered the battery pack in early February and it came in last April. �I ordered the D-850 in early September and it came in early December. �The D850 is still listed as on backorder more than 8 months after it's introduction. �Nikon must have some manufacturing problems. �However, both the camera and battery pack are excellent.

The total handling of the D850 with the MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack attached is awesome!� The D800's with the Nikon MB-D12 Multi-Power Battery Pack is not as comfortable to hold and use as the�D850 with the Nikon MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack.� So, I think the new�MB-D18 Multi-Power Battery Pack for the D850 is a major improvement.

I "grip" all of my bodies, since I can't stand a body without a grip - too small to comfortably hold. This one adds an additional 2fps with the D5 batteries, which is how I use it (and how I used the D810 too) - the grip never get taken off the body.

Battery supplied with the camera is touted be be much better than the one supplied with the D 810 which in itself was very good but the added battery pack means unless on a long photo trip I will not bother to pack a charger plus it makes handling the camera easier.

before I can review it , I'm still waiting on the Nikon D850 that I ordered awhile back and still on back order ..

I received the MB-D18 recently; but, I haven't received my D850 yet.
But, I got the MB-D17 for free with my D500.� I love the MB-D17.� It makes everything better about using the D500....more comfortable to use, better in portrait position, better when shooting with telephoto lenses,� Etc.� Because of my experience with the MB-D17 + D500 I've spent the somewhat ridiculous price on the MB-D18.� I'm probably going to go with the EN-EL18b battery to enjoy the long run times in both battery holders and fast frames in the D850.

Awesome .... a must habe for speed and weight distribution purposes.

The quality is very good and with an L bracket on I can still open up to change battery with no problem. I've tried other brands but can't open to change battery.
