A: Just measured mine. It is perfectly square, 1 5/8 on the bottom, 1 2/8 on the top. It is 3/8 deep from top to bottom. It has a small pin to secure a camcorder. I don't use the pin, so I covered it with a piece of tape. The part is well-made. I should add that I got mine with a Vanguard ball head which I don't recommend. The head doesn't lock anymore after just a couple years of very sparse use. No matter how much you tighten it, it slips.I was in B&H yesterday, and the store copy was the same! Looked nice, good value, didn't hold up. So no more Vanguard for me. But the plate should be OK, just keep a coin around to attach it to the camera. Hope this helps!

A: As long as the dimensions are the same they should work. I have found that often the difference in part numbers is a round hole vs a slotted hole, or std vs tool free nut. Most of them seem to be interchangeable. Also if you look up the part number for your head, it will give you a list of compatible plates.

A: I think, VT-726 such a model which is no longer available and QS-36 plate is mountable on new models only. If you don't want to change your tripod,just change the new model heads that QS-36 mountable. So you can continiue to use the legs of old tripod. Once I did the same with my old Slik, kept the legs and changed the head with a new model. Many tripods have 3/8 screw to hold the heads in place.
