Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the B2-LR-II de facto part of the scope of delivery of the full gimbal configuration? On the RRS website it is not mentioned.

A: The Really Right Stuff PG-02 MK2 Pano-Gimbal Head with Full Gimbal includes the full gimbal configuration.

Q: 2. If it is mounted on a ball head, is the leveling base still needed ? Can we just use the ball head to level since this bracket has a bubble level ?

A: Yes, it does have an Arca mount point - but the PG-01 base is 'gimbaled' at that point with a great tightening knob, allowing easy, accurate leveling of the base. Without the bubble on the end it would be hard to get it perfectly level. If you are going to go to the trouble of using a pano bracket, you might as well get one which is a pleasure to use. Otherwise, just mount your camera on your ballhead and fire away.

Q: 3. There video says its for compact mirrorless cameras, will it handle say like a canon 80D?

A: It will support Canon 80D with a light lens

Q: 4. Would a Canon 5d Markiii fit on this?

A: Yes, this one will fit any full frame DSLR, but it depends on a lens you are going to use. I use it with Nikon D700 or D800 and Nikon 70-200mm VRII as a maximum. This body/lens combo weighs around 2.5 kg (PG-01 load capacity is 3.6 kg/8 lb), but you should be careful how far from the tripod centre you will push them on a nodal slide. Although, primary target is a mirrorless camera user, I like how sturdy, but light and small PG-01 is, as well as its price in comparison to PG-02. I use quite long nodal slide with it (RRS MPR-192), as for example, the entrance pupil for mentioned lens (no parallax point) at 200mm is behind the camera flange and you need to have that lenght of a slide to push everything forward to the far end. I hope this can help.

Q: 5. If the base is fixed, how can you pan? Is that base Arca Swiss compatible? Why was the pan base discontinued?

A: The Really Right Stuff PG-01 Pano-Gimbal Head with Lever-Release Clamp and Fixed Horizontal Base has an Arca plate which could be connected to a Really Right Stuff panning clamp or a Really Right Stuff ball head with a panning position.

Q: 6. I would like the camera to sit as low as possible - can the camera be mounted lower in the full gimbal + cradle than side mount?

A: The Really Right Stuff PG-02 MK2 Pano-Gimbal Head with Full Gimbal's full-gimbal configuration gives you an additional point of control to raise or lower the height that your camera or lens are mounted at, with additional engraved markings for precise adjustment along this axis so it can be mounted lower.

Q: 7. Has anybody used this with the BH 30 ballhead?

A: BH-25 fits perfectly.I tried BH-30 also - it fits OK but... BH-30 has slightly larger base dia.

Q: 8. How good or how bad is the stability of 70-200/2.8 with converter, or higher magnification like 200-500/5.6? Can this be stable enough to replace full-size gimbal for lighter lenses 5 lbs or less but longer focal length?

A: This is Panoramic Gimbal Head not mad for what you are asking to do , you are better of using the gimbal stabilization

Q: 9. I've been using a Gigapan Epic Pro with a Canon 5D iii and 300mm f4 L lens. Would this PG-01 work with my camera/lens setup?

A: No, the Really Right Stuff PG-01 Compact Pano-Gimbal Head with Lever-Release Clamp and Leveling Base can not support the Canon 5d Mark III with a Canon 300mm f/4 L lens. The lens is too long and heavy.

Q: 10. Will thus support a nikon d850 and 70-200 f2.8 lense, without any vibration issues. It will be on a rrs bh-55 and Gitzo GT4533LS tripod?

A: That set up is pushing the limit of the load capacity, it will work but with some difficulty and sacrificing stability.
