Designed for use in RAID or NAS arrays with 1 to 8 drive bays, the 6TB N300 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD from Toshiba meets the reliability, performance, endurance, and scalability requirements of 24/7 NAS applications for personal, home office, and small business use. This 6TB drive operates using a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface, a 512MB cache, and a rotational speed of 7200 rpm, all of which help to ensure uninterrupted data transfers with a rate of up to 281 MB/s. This drive also features high levels of reliability, with 600,000 load/unload cycles, 1 in 1015 non-recoverable read errors per bits read, a workload rate of up to 180TB per year, and a 1 million hour MTTF. Shock protection is provided by a rotational vibration sensor, while ramp loading helps reduce wear and Error Recovery Control limits recovery time to help optimize error correction.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will these work in a Drobo 8D?

A: According to the specifications from Drobo, the maximum volume size for the Drobo 8D is 128TB. This would mean that, theoretically, each bay could support up to 16TB. However, we wouldn’t be able to guarantee a drive like the WD 20TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD, B&H # WE201KFGXSPB, would work with the Drobo 8D and give you the full 20TB capacity.

Q: 2. can this be used as a spare for wd 4100 16 tb?

A: I believe the WD 4100 comes with 5400rpm drives (model# WD40EFRX). They're a little cheaper.

Q: 3. Is this compatible with ds923+?

A: Yes, the Seagate 16TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR) is compatible with the Synology DS923+ 4-Bay NAS Enclosure, B&H # SYDS923.

Q: 4. Are Western Digital NAS drives compatible with the Lacie Big 5 NAS system? Thanks

A: Yes, theses drives would work with the Lacie Big 5

Q: 5. will it be compatible with Synology DS415Play?

A: This HDD is compatible with Synology enclosures.

Q: 6. Is the 12TB N300 or a N300 (non pro for that matter) a CMR drive?

A: The Toshiba 12TB N300 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD is a CMR Drive.

Q: 7. Is this drive compatible with Synology DS1813+?

A: Yes, the Seagate 6TB IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD (CMR) is listed as compatible with the DS1813+.

Q: 8. If I replace the WD Red NAS 5400 RPM drives in a My Cloud EX2 Ultra with these, how much of a performance difference can I reasonably expect to see?

A: Almost no difference, unless you're using these drives as regular OS drives, where application read/write speed is more critical. If building a NAS I would recommend 5400s, the read speed is fine for streaming, they last longer than 7200s on average, and they're usually cheaper. I got these 7200 at a great price, so it made sense for me at the time.

Q: 9. what is the Difference between Retail and OEM?

A: OEM hardware and software are packaged for distribution to companies who build systems. OEM come in packaging units and they don't come in a retail box, that allows the price to be cheaper. They're also for customers that know how to build and install the drives without needing support. So you don't get customer support from the manufacture or technical support.

Q: 10. Are 18TB Red Pro #WD181KFGX compatible with Synology DS923+?

A: The WD 18TB Red Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" Internal NAS HDD with the part number WD181KFGX-SPAFPN0 is not on Synology's official compatibility list. This does not mean it won't work with the DS923+, but it does mean that Synology reserves the right to deny you service if you use this drive. Synology also reserves the right to change the list at any time.

I had zero issues with installation and initialization. I'm using two in a ioSafe 218 NAS (two-bay diskless). I'll update if I have any issues down the road, but so far so good.

Bought a pair of these to replace some old Seagate 3TB death drives I use for backup. I put them in my new OWC dual enclosure, and ran Cystaldisk (2 pass 1GB) on them both. First drive was 260MB/s read, 256MB/s write. Second drive was 255MB/s read and write. Those are sequential...I basically use the drives to backup small and large files. My older 7200RMP drivers were luccky to hit 100MB/s, so this is a sweet upgrade.

I bought two of them for my Synology NAS and they are fast , reliable and quiet. A little more expensive than the Normal Red model but the speed is noticeable.

I have been running these drives in a NAS for a little over 2 years. They have been very reliable. I purchased these additional drives to replace some 4 TB drives in the same NAS.

Using in my Synology Diskstation. Dependable and have lasted a long time. B&H price much better than Amazon.

I've been using WD Red series HDDs for almost 10 years on my NAS units and have been very happy with the performance and reliability. When I received a report that one of the 4 drives was dying after almost 10 years, it made sense to install the latest version of WD Red. As I expected, I slipped it into it slot and it booted right up and was at home immediately with the other disks in my RAID 5.

I would recommend this product to anyone needing a very reliable drive with an excellent operational life.

I needed to make some room in my external JBOD enclosures to be able to swap in and out an APFS Bootable drive, so I swapped a 2TB drive for this 10TB drive, which game me lots of options for adding a mirror member other multi-drive RAID mirrors. The good news is that with 10TB, I was able to turn many 2 member mirrors into 3 member mirrors. This drive is now part of 7 other RAID volumes. The bad news is that now this single drive is needed any time I write to any of those mirrors. I was able to avoid performance issues by making this drive only be members of mirrors I am using to Archive and store video files and things that are super important, but which I dont need to access as often as some other things. Once I have reason to add a 2nd one of these, I will re-partition it so it has a fewer number of larger partitions. Like I will make it a member in two 5TB mirrors, rather than a member in 7 or 8 mirrors that are 1-2 TB each. Having never hd a drive larger than 6TB, it was not a problem I thought about until it was in and running. The price per TB is good, and the density is amazing. I will purchase one more of these in the next 6 months.

Time will tell how reliable these drives are, but to date there have been no problems at all. In my experience, B&H always takes care to package hard drives correctly so they arrive undamaged. Have been buying WD Reds for over half a decade now and none have failed me yet. Of course, it's only a matter of time -- all HDDs will eventually fail. But those that are well made to last a long time offer a better value for my money. WD designs the Red drives for continuous operations in Network Attached Storage systems and that's my use case. The PRO iteration of the Red series offers a higher RPM and is worth the added cost.

First off, fast and safe shipping from B&H!

I am slowly upgrading the storage capacity in my Drobo 5N (also purchased from B&H years ago). There are a couple of things to note if you will be doing the same:

- My original config was 5 x 4TB drives, and I recently started running low on free space. If you want to increase capacity, and all current drives are the same size, you will have to replace TWO drives as mentioned here: http://dashboardhelp.drobo.com/guide/250/en/5N_Adding_Capacity_or_Drives.htm.

- At the time my 5N was originally configured, the firmware only supported 16TB total volume size. That said, after replacing 2 of the
existing 4TB drives with 2 10TB drives, I was left with unallocated space, which could not be utilized. The only way to take advantage of
the added space was to factory-restore the 5N after updating to the
latest firmware (which now supports 64TB max volume size).

As my 5N is used purely for backup, it wasn't a problem factory-restoring and copying everything over again. Otherwise, you will need to back up everything on the Drobo before restoring.
