Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. CAN BE USED ON X RAY FILMS ?

A: Yes. We suggest a three minute fix in Ilford Rapid Fixer for 1+4 and a five-minute wash for x-ray film usage. But this is something an end-user needs to experiment with.

Q: 2. After mixing the concentrate with water. What is the maximum time to be able to reuse it again?

A: The maximum time will depend on how this is stored and if it is being replenished. Properly replenished ILFORD RAPID FIXER in regular use should have a very long life but as a general guide it is advisable to replace it after 12 months in the processing tank. Unreplenished ILFORD RAPID FIXER working strength solutions should last for up to: 6 months in full tightly capped bottles. 2 months in a tank or dish/tray with a floating lid. 1 month in a half full tightly capped bottle. 7 days in an open dish/tray. More details can be found on the Technical Data Sheet linked here. https://www.ilfordphoto.com/amfile/file/download/file/1833/product/711/

Q: 3. If I use it on b&w films development, does it also request 20 degree temperature?

A: Good question, I have used this fixer for dozens of years on black and white film at room temperature and my film looks gorgeous.

Q: 4. I need to make a liter of fixer what should my measurements be?

A: Anything between 1:4 and 1:9 will work just fine. The stronger, the longer it will last.

Q: 5. EXPIRE DATE PLEASE ?

A: The expiration date would be within 6 months to 1 year from now.

Q: 6. What is the expiration date now?

A: Expiration date 02/20206 as of 8/15/2022

Q: 7. How long will this fixer last in concentrate in the bottle?

A: Full, unopened bottles of ILFORD RAPID FIXER concentrate stored in cool conditions, 5–20ºC (41–68ºF), will keep for two years. Once opened use completely within six months and keep all bottles tightly sealed until used.

Q: 8. Can I reuse the fixer for processing film?

A: Yes you can reuse it but it is recommended to replenish it. The instructions on that is on page 3 at this link, https://bit.ly/3MdKFI1 .

Q: 9. If I use Ilford rapid fixer is it necessary to use hypo clear for film and fiber based paper?

A: Not required, and to my knowledge I have never used hypo-clear on any of my prints. However, it probably covers you for your wash time procedure. I have used it only for film, and even then not too often. I am concerned with washing prints well, however.

Q: 10. How long will the fixer solution in he gallon bottle last before it becomes unusable if I open it once?

A: I've had it work after more than a year after the first opening. I don't discard if sediment forms. I use it, but test clear time with a bit of unprocessed film. If film clears, paper will, too. (A clear time with fresh fix is noted and subsequent clear times compared.) This fix performs better than advertised. Hope this helps.

It's the fixer that I learned how to develop on, and I have always loved it. This paired with Ilford Ilfostop and Adox Rodinal are a dream team of chemicals.

Hypo can do the job if you want to stand and oscillate prints for 5 or 10 minutes. Rapid Fixer does the same job for one minute.

I use this as my standard fixer for film and paper. Modern films don't seem to require a hardening fixer, and a non-hardening fixer washes out quickly and doesn't leave residue to cause photographic materials to deteriorate over time. This fixer is also a convenient liquid and it gives off less irritating fumes than the hardening fixers that I once used.
