Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this set be appropriate for ASMR/binaural recording? I am on a relative budget but want as best quality of sound as I can get.

A: appropriate is relative. these are good mics. they compare to Shure SM81s. They are accurate. their part in the total audio chain from reality to ASMR is just one part. my guess is that they will work well. again, all the other parts of the audio chain have their own effects. most important is how YOU will use them.

Q: 2. Would these be suitable for entry level field recording, such as nature sounds?

A: Yes you can use the Zoom ZPC-1 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphones (Matched Pair) for entry level recording of nature sounds.

Q: 3. Is this Microphone can be hanging from the ceiling as well?

A: You can, but it is not intended to be hung from the ceiling. You may want to consider the Astatic 2600VP for a high quality hanging mic: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/754716-REG/Astatic_2600VP_Variable_Polar_Pattern_Hanging.html

Q: 4. We have had two M1250B's for four years. Purchased to record the choir. Recently, the Music Director wants to amplify the choir a bit during Praise and Worship songs. However, the M1250Bs pick up a bunch of drums which sit 12 feet from the left mic and the drums are actually more predominate than the choir. Request advice? gev at Kirkmont Church

A: Move the drum kit if possible. If these mics are not ceiling mounted - you might try a few of these panels: ClearSonic S5-2 - 66 x 48 x 1.5 Double Section SORBER Baffle (Light Grey) with Handle. a href= http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1AeFdcw/a

Q: 5. Does the 50 microboom come with a clutch (to connect the boom to a mic-stand) ?

A: The Audix MicroBoom Carbon Fiber 50 Boom attaches to any microphone stand with the included MCBOOM mic stand adapter. This adapter allows for the total control over the angle, rotation and position of the carbon fiber boom.

Q: 6. How/where do you mount these if micing a grand piano?

A: While there are many ways to mic a grand piano, the most straight forward approach would be to place each of these on boom mic stands, and place one over the bass portion of strings, and the other over the treble portion. Please make sure the distance from string to capsule are the same for each mic, and that if above the strings at 1', the mics are separated by 3' of space.

Q: 7. How does the audix ats 10 terminate to mixer. Does it hardwire from platform then clean male to mixer/phantom power input?

A: It sports an XLR Male connector in the back. You can then connect it via any standard XLR cables into your mixer and if your mixer and yes, it will pass through phantom power.

Q: 8. Is this able to hold the SureSM7B Cardioid Dynamic Vocal Microphone, which weighs 1.69 lbs?

A: Yes, on just the vertical pole this will be able to hold an SM7B.

Q: 9. would this work good on an alto saxophone?

A: Yes, you can use the Audix ADX20I Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphone (B&H# AUADX20I ) on an alto saxophone. This is just the mic only and it has a mini-XLR output connector which requires a power supply. You may want to purchase the same mic packaged with the compatible phantom power supply, which is the Audix ADX20IP Cardioid Condenser Instrument Microphone with APS910 Power Supply (B&H# AUADX20IP). The power supply has a mini-XLR input connector for the mic and a standard XLR output connector to connect to your amp, PA or recorder.

Q: 10. Would you be able to use this with the Nanlight Pavotubes as a light stand?

A: The thread size on a mic stand like this one is 5/8, so if your light stand uses a 5/8 thread then you will be able to use it with this stand.

These mics are typically seen as studio mics, from what I understand they do a terrific job there. I purchased them to mic cymbals in a live setting. They sound great! The shock mounts were perfect for using a mic boom clamped to the cymbal stands. You can't hear any noise from the cymbal stand. If you prefer more polar pattern options you can simply buy the omni capsules for the 604 as the are also designed to work with the 603.

We use this mic in two venues on our church campus. One is in our Audio/Video recording studio when we are recording live sounding videos for YouTube or Facebook. The other is as overheads for our cymbals within our drum booth. In both application they perform exceptionally.

I am using the 603's to record live music in small (100-300 person) venues. I usually locate the pair near the front-of-house sound console (on a stand as high as I can get away with to minimize picking up audience chatter) and mix with a direct feed from the console. I am very happy with the results.

I use these mics on my grand piano, my guitar, and my violin. I would definitely recommend them as an instrument mic pair.

Our music director brought in a pair of 603's as he wasn't happy with the mics being used. I must say they were a vast improvement. There's not too much info about these mics for this application so thought I would submit these comments. The church ended up buying a pair so now have our own. They've survived an AZ summer with no problems in our sanctuary with the air conditioning turned off as we meet in a smaller room. I'm thinking about buying another pair to use for the hand bell choir.

As far as I've used them, they've done pretty good. I love the quality.

On the few occasions that I've used these small diaphragm microphones they've always surprised me with their detail and clarity. I can't exactly attest to the EIN level of 12dB A-Weighted (from Zooms own website) but I can't detect any self noise through normal usage. Most recently I've recorded a popcorn tin can being struck (for a virtual instrument) and the cans resonance/sustain was best picked up by the ZPC-1. Additionally I placed a single ZPC-1 in a blimp windshield, recorded a grass cutter, and was easily able to hear the tiny rocks being picked up and flung by the grass cutter at a distance of about 10 feet. Needless to say I'm very happy with my purchase!

I bought these to use with a portable recorder, mainly recording bands in small clubs. They work very well for that, except that for very loud music, a built-in pad (like the MXL 604 now has) would be nice. But I have a pair of inline XLR pads so I don't mind that. The nice aluminum case and shock mounts make up for that. These mics have a wide cardioid pattern which is not really suitable for applications where a highly directional mic is needed, but they are great where an omni-directional would pick up too much. They sound very natural and detailed on guitars (especially acoustic) and drums, so they work well for room-recording a whole band. The B&H price is the best I could find anywhere...

I haven't used these much yet, but hooked them up to my tube preamp and did some sample recordings. Boy are they sensitive, and if you have an impedence knob you can get some variable results, all of which seem to be very good. Can't complain about the case. It's not like you're going to be tossing this thing around like a gorilla at the airport; it's just for storage and it looks cool. Shock mounts seem fine too. Great for the money, I'd say! I also like that you can swap the capsules to different patterns for not too much money. Really an excellent option for more variations!
