Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Would this work well with the Sigma 45mm f2.8 E-mount lens if I put a step up ring on it?

A: "SLR Magic recommends that the Anamorphot-50 1.33x be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter." This is all well and good however, no lens manufacturer ever lists that dimension. So it is a matter of guesswork as to the efficacy of the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x on the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 DG DN. I am of the opinion that it might work. However, testing is the only way to make sure. At B&H, we like the customer to make the final decision. At B&H, you have a 30 day return period for most items, including this one. Please save all packaging for that time and also see our return guidelines. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/HelpCenter/ReturnExchange.jsp

Q: 2. Hello if I use this lens with lenses with a lens diameter of 40mm, will I have a problem?

A: This can be used with lenses that have a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter. At 40mm you are within the diameter parameters. How focal length and lens threading size still needs to be taken in to account.

Q: 3. Can I use this on my Blackmagic Pocket 4k?

A: Yes. The Pocket 4K has a 4x3 Anamorphic mode.

Q: 4. Will this work on a Canon C100?

A: You can use this on any lens it fits and any camera the lens fits. That being said, since the performance of the Anamorphot is very dependent on the lens, it is suggested that for best performance you use heavy duty primes not lightweight front focus focus by wire zooms. The main consideration however is the sensor. If you have a camera such as a ARRI Alexa or Panasonic GH4 with a 4:3 sensor, the Anamorphot -50 2.0x is the correct selection for it will create the desired 2.35:1 aspect ratio. However, on a Canon C100 what this lens will produce is a too wide an image with a non-standard 3.55:1 aspect ratio. That is where the SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 1.33x comes in. It's squeeze is designed to create 2:39:1 pictures with 16x9 sensors like what the Canon C100 has. However, since the squeeze is not as powerful as the 2.0x the flares and artifacts, while still present, are not as extreme as with the 2.0x squeeze.

Q: 5. As i know SLR Magic Anamorphot-50 2.0x works better with 4:3 or APS-C Sensors. Here's my question to you, it will work if i will shoot 4K with my 5D Mark IV, which has crop factor 1.74x ?

A: It will not. the Anamorphot-50 is designed to work with cameras that have a 4:3 Anamorphic Mode. The 5D Mark IV does not have such a mode. You would need to look at the Anamorphot-50 1.33x instead.https://bhpho.to/2o7c4UO

Q: 6. Does anyone know if this will work with a vintage Nikkor AI 85mm with 52mm filter thread; on a Sony A7III? Am I understanding it will effectively be a 63.9mm lens?

A: That will depend on the diameter of the lens you have. The Anamorphot-50 1.33x can be used with a lens that has a front element that is physically no larger than 50mm in diameter. A 52mm filter adapter is included, it will just be a matter of if the diameter of the lens is proper.

Q: 7. What's the difference between the Slr magic $599 vs $299 rangefinder? The information looks the same. The only thing I see that's different is that there are number indicator on the $599.

A: The principal difference and the reason for the cost is that the SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter B&H # SLR77RFWM works with the SLR Magic Anamorphot series of adapters, currently 1.33x and 2x. The SLR Magic Rangefinder Cine Adapter with Near/Normal Calibration (72mm) B&H # SLR72RFNN, on the other hand, cannot work with the Anamorphot lenses.

Q: 8. Would this work with my canon 8-15mm lens ?

A: Sorry, no. Even if you could mount it, (which is not possible due to the large, bulbous front glass element of the 8-15mm) you would see the inside of the AnamorphotX.

Q: 9. Can i use it with my Sony alpha 7ii?

A: The question is more can it be used with the lens you have on your Sony a7 II. An advantage with the a7 II is that you can select full frame or Super35/APS-C as your recording set up. Depending on the lens(es) you have, select the sensor size to use. If you have lenses between 35-100mm, shoot Super35/APS-C. If you have lenses in the 70-100mm range, use full frame.

Q: 10. Will this work with panasonic gh4/gh5?

A: SLR anamorphic adapter 40- Mft Mount Compatible for gh4 and gh5.

This pristine piece of glass is on my Lumix S1 and it’s really an amazing lens. The micro sharpness, color and contrast as well as the creamy bokeh is in same league as Zeiss Otus 55mm. And the performance is all available from f/1.4!

This is a stunningly good lens. I literally sat before my Retina monitor with my jaw dropped when I saw the first files from this lens on an S1R.

The lens draws with magnificent acutance AND dimensionality. It does rely upon a large amount of software correction of distortion, yet the edges and corners still look good.

If the heavy weight, and large size and price are manageable for you, it will reward you with files equal to or surpassing the very best nifty fifties out there (it visibly bests the Sony 50mm 1.4 Planar and Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art).

Rented this lens for a few weeks for a few shoots and, wow, this lens is sharp. Super sharp. It's heavy and big for a 50mm f1.4, but Panasonic was definitely going for superior sharpness with this lens - and they delivered. Incredible image quality.

I had not used a 50mm lens since I first started. These particular prime lenses were very tainted to me because they have always been soft in just about all brands. Sigma changed that with their 50mm Art but this LUMIX lens is on another level even from that. It’s just razor sharp but yet with super soft fall off. It’s an expensive lens but if you value this level of quality you will want to have it in your collection. The build quality is outstanding.

This lens was supposedly built as the standard with which every new L lens should be measured by.. and I truly hope that's true. The quality from the build, to the color rendition, handling, and falloff is nothing short of stunning.

My only critique is that it's a bit large, but if that's what they must do to make this beauty what it is, then so be it.

It's awesome.

I just got back from spending a week in Tahoe shooting content with this lens. I've shot with high end glass my entire career including Zeiss, Hasselblad, and Phase One and can tell you that this 50mm 1.4 is optically superior to any lens I've ever shot with. The price tag is high, but it's what you pay for optics on this level. The rendering in fine detail is incredible, focus is very fast, manual focus has a really nice feel to it, build quality is crazy high end. It has an 11 bladed aperture and it really comes into play in the bokeh quality which is buttery and beautiful like medium format. The previous best lens I had ever used was the Zeiss 50mm f2 Makro prime and this lens has it beat.
