Leveraging Tiffen's Magnetic Control System technology, the 58mm MCS Variable ND Filter offers 2 to 8-stops of neutral density with quick and easy attachment. Simply thread the magnetic adapter into the front of the lens and snap the magnetic filter into place when the time comes.

Neutral density filters offer a way to maintain control over depth of field and create special effects. A variable density filter eliminates the need to carry several individual filters. The heavier the density, the longer the exposure, allowing for movement effects like blurred water or streaking car lights in traffic. The filter also allows users to access wider apertures in bright lighting conditions.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. If I use an 55mm ND filter on my 55mm SONY lens, can use this 58mm hood on top of the filter? ND com said use 58mm?

A: The Sensei 58mm Quick Clip Lens Hood (B&H # SELNQC58) needs a 58mm filter thread to connect onto. If the outside-facing thread on your filter is 58mm, then you can mount this hood.

Q: 2. I read about fine tuning this lens by one reviewer, but how is that done?

A: Nikon indicates that if you find particular lenses are not producing the results you desire when autofocusing, you may fine tune the autofocus performance for each lens using the AF Fine-Tune option in the camera's setup menu. It is not normally required and may interfere with normal focusing, so they state to only use when necessary. As not all Nikon DSLR cameras have this option, it is recommended to check your camera's menu to see if the option is available for your particular camera model, or check your camera's instruction manual for more information on the AF-Fine Tuning procedure.

Q: 3. I read somewhere that this lens was made for a crop sensor; my question is....are there any reviews of this lens on a crop sensor? I have the Nikon D7000 and am trying to find a sharp lens with great bokeh for portraits, and similar to the 85mm on a full frame. Any suggestions and comments would be greatly appreciated.

A: This lens is an FX type lens, which means it is originally designed to be used on both Full-frame and crop-sensor cameras. I do not have any links to cite for you showing examples of it used on the D7000, but it is a very sharp lens with great shallow depth of field for your portrait work. It is one I would definitely recommend for your D7000 if you want something in the 85mm range. This lens is based on an original design of an early Nikon 58mm lens, and they improved upon it for use on DSLRs of both formats.

Q: 4. How do you put these on the unit?

A: The softbox on the back has straps that work with Velcro that keep it on the light.

Q: 5. Is this lens adaptable without electrical contacts, i.e. is it manually focusable and is there an aperture lever on the mount?

A: No.

Q: 6. Why is there a pic of a canon in this ad?

A: We imagine this image was used so that customers could get an idea of what the item looks like even if the camera was incorrect. We will pass this error notice on to the Web department. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope that this has not caused any confusion or inconvenience.

Q: 7. Can I mount this on a 58mm lens and still use a 58mm filter?

A: If you mount the Sensei 58mm Quick Clip Lens Hood BH #SELNQC58 on a 58 mm lens, you can't use a filter as the following unit does not offer any front threads.

Q: 8. Good morning, this model goes in a 50mm yongnuo, has a diameter of 58mm? Thank you

A: Hi--yes, you can use this hood for the YN 50mm f/1.8 II Lens, which has a 58mm filter thread size.

Q: 9. Can these filters be used at full 11mm zoom on Canon 11-24 f4 lens? Read somewhere that some of these rear mount filters can damage lens and not recommended to use filter in the lens rear filter slot at the widest zoom because the rear glass element will hit the filter.

A: Yes it can be used throughout the full zoom range on the 11-24mm and it will not damage the lens.

Q: 10. Can this lens hood be used with a lens filter?

A: Yes, Just be mindful that filter being used must have 58 mm front threads in order to attach hood.
