Visually and sonically precise, the stainless steel Earthworks ETHOS is a broadcast condenser microphone built to impart a competitive, detailed quality to your voice for podcasts, narration, audiobooks, and more, helping it stand out in a world of speech-centric content. Like many mics that made Earthworks a big name, the ETHOS utilizes a small-diaphragm condenser capsule, which allows it to deliver nuanced and accurate vocal recordings with extended highs.

While it is common for broadcast mics to have cardioid polar patterns, the ETHOS features a supercardioid response, enabling more focused capture of your voice with less background noise. The combination of low-noise circuitry and high SPL handling make it a strong performer, even in today's demanding production standards. Whether hung from a boom arm or affixed to a mic stand, the supplied mount from Triad-Orbit lets you get optimal and stable mic placement without trouble.

This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.

However your voice sounds, the ETHOS is designed to faithfully capture it. You can be sure that the tone of your podcast, narration, commentary, or audiobook will be unmistakably you.

The ETHOS utilizes a small-diaphragm condenser capsule to ensure accuracy and revealing detail across its tonal spectrum.

With a frequency range of 20 Hz to 30 kHz, the ETHOS enables every element of your voice to be recorded clearly, with no loss of highs or lows.

A supercardioid polar pattern allows the ETHOS to pick up primarily what's in front of it (your voice) while rejecting much of the off-axis room reflections and background noise.

  • 0.6" small-diaphragm condenser capsule
  • Ultrafast 11.67 microsecond rise time
  • Supercardioid polar pattern
  • 20 Hz to 30 kHz frequency range
  • 145 dB maximum SPL
  • 16 dBA self-noise
  • XLR 3-pin output connector
  • Requires 24 to 48 VDC phantom power

By reducing noise from breaths and wind, the supplied foam windscreen helps you achieve clean vocal recordings.

Included with the ETHOS is a Triad-Orbit M2-R mount, a sturdy and versatile accessory that makes it easy to get the perfect mic placement with a boom arm or mic stand (available separately).

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What kind of phantom amp would be recommended for this microphone?

A: The Earthworks M50 requires +48 volts phantom power in order to operate. There are several portable battery powered, as well as AC powered units available. The ART Phantom I is a solid single channel solution. a href= http://bhpho.to/1Amcmmn target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1Amcmmn/a

Q: 2. Does the software include the Realphones database of 200+ preset/profiles for other models of headphones? Or ONLY for this ESI?

A: The ESI eXtra 10 Monitoring Headphones with dSONIQ Realphones Modeling Software includes the Realphones ESI Edition software, which does not include the full range of supported headphone models that are offered with the Realphones Professional Pack software (which is currently approximately 200 models, at the time of this posting). However, dSONIQ does offer the Professional Pack with all functionality and the complete library of supported headphone models at a discounted price for ESI owners. The information is included on the download page for the dSONIQ Realphones ESI Edition software (https://www.dsoniq.com/ESI). To access the Realphones ESI Edition software, you will need to enter the product serial number to enable the software download, and if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see the offer for the discounted Professional Pack which is only available after you provide the serial number for your eXtra 10 Monitoring Headphones. The Realphones ESI Edition software includes features such as headphone frequency response correction, binaural processing, room and speaker simulation, along with factory presets and user snapshots. In addition to the features that are included with the ESI Edition, the Realphones Professional Pack also offers the full library of supported headphone models, user presets and the full user adjustable parameters set, monitoring control features, as well as system-wide audio driver and AAX support.

Q: 3. Does the Sennheiser MKE600 fit?

A: The Sennheiser MKE600 shotgun mic is slightly larger than 10 inches, so it would not fit into the Small Alfa Case 10 MicTube Shotgun Microphone Case. We suggest using the Alfa Case 15 Medium MicTube Shotgun Microphone Case, B&H# AL20015MTLB.

Q: 4. Will this mic work with a Canon XHA1 video camera?

A: Hello. Thank you for your inquiry in regards to the Azden SMX-10 Stereo Microphone. The Canon XHA1 video camera comes with a 3.5mm mic input terminal near the microphone clip holder. So, the mic should work without a problem. The SMX-10 is self-powered via a AAA battery (not included).

Q: 5. How does this compare with the 22 mm 2 meade? Is it worth the extra bucks?

A: I am not too sure which Meade Model you are referring to. My apologies. They do not have a 22mm 2 Eyepiece. Are you asking about the Tele Vue Nagler Type 4 22mm Wide Angle Eyepiece (2 )?

Q: 6. Will the SMX-10 work on a D3300 with a 25ft extension cable?

A: It would work but to confirm the other responders, running long lengths of unbalanced cable does introduce noise and reduces high frequency response, so it is not an ideal solution. A better sounding solution would be to use our FMX-DSLR mixer and an XLR shotgun, like the SGM-250.

Q: 7. How will this lens perform with 10” Dobson? (Celestron StarSense 10)

A: The Tele Vue Ethos 17mm Ultra Wide-Angle Eyepiece 2 inch is fully compatible with a 10 inch Dobsonian telescope.

Q: 8. Is the Azden SMX-10 Mic compatible with the Canon Vixia HV40?

A: Yes it is.

Q: 9. How far from the sound source will this shotgun mike work? I want to record a lecture in a classroom and want to know if this mike will work from the back of a classroom.

A: I find this works best when close to the sound source. In a similar situation to what you are describing I have run an extension sounds cable ( 3.5 mm female to male) to connect to the camcorder and place the mic on a stand close to the speaker, right out of frame.

Q: 10. Is this price for one or two windscreens?

A: Price is for one when I bought it.The Auray version is 3 for $8 and they work almost as welltt
