Tiffen Nd Filter (86mm Coarse, 1.6-stop)
- Product Code: ga1626
-
This 86mm Coarse Tiffen ND Filter is a solid ND filter with a filter factor of 3x that provides a 1.6-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.
This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Can I use this filter with step down rings for my other smaller 52mm, 58mm, 72mm lenses?
A: Tiffen's 77mm Variable ND filter can used on your smaller diameter lenses provided you have the appropriate stepping rings (ie - 52mm to 77mm, 58mm to 77mm, etc.)
Q: 2. Tamron 16-300?
A: Yes the Tiffen 67mm Variable Neutral Density Filter can be used on any lens that has 67mm front threads such as the Tamron 16-300mm.
Q: 3. I can see a bit of threading on the front of the 62mm and 67mm Tiffen VNDs. Can you tell me what the diameter is of each of those? I realize it is not much, but it is there, and I would like to try and use it.
A: Unfortunately the Tiffen VND filters do not have front threads. The front of the filter is larger than the rear threads in order to reduce the risk of vignetting.
Q: 4. since this filter use two polarizing filters to achieve blocking of the light, will this cause uneven distribution of the light, depending on the shooting angle?
A: As long as you are within the lens specifications you will not experience any uneven light distribution. I have never had a problem unless using at the dense or dark end of the limit and with a wide focal length on zoom or a wide angle lens
Q: 5. what is the thickness?
A: The Tiffen 4 x 6" Water White ND filters are 4mm thick.
Q: 6. I have a Canon MIII. Will this Tiffen 77VND work with a 50mm lens?
A: Whether this filter will fit your lens depends on the exact 50mm lens. The front diameter of the lens is generally printed on the front or stamped behind the lens cap.
Q: 7. Will this fit the Canon EF 50mm lens?
A: There are three different Canon lenses which match your description, each one takes a different size filter. Please visit the URL below and then click on the lens you have. Once on that page scroll down and click on SPECS. The filter thread size will be listed here.
Q: 8. Does this have hard stops so you don’t rotate it too far
A: No.
Q: 9. Will this cause a vignette on the Sony 24-105mm at the wise end?
A: No, it should not vignette on the 24mm end.
Q: 10. I intend to use this on the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Has anyone seen vignetting at the extremes?
A: This would depend on if you are shooting a full frame or cropped sensor camera body. On a full frame sensor, vignetting is likely at the wider focal lengths of your lens. On a cropped sensor camera, this is less likely due to the magnification factor.
