This 86mm Coarse Tiffen ND Filter is a solid ND filter with a filter factor of 3x that provides a 1.6-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. A: Unfortunately the Tiffen VND filters do not have front threads. The front of the filter is larger than the rear threads in order to reduce the risk of vignetting.

A: As long as you are within the lens specifications you will not experience any uneven light distribution. I have never had a problem unless using at the dense or dark end of the limit and with a wide focal length on zoom or a wide angle lens
