A: This lens differs in all aspects, except the core characteristics (85mm focal lefth and 1.4 aperture). Unlike some other Milvus lenses (I'm thinking about the 50mm for example), this has been built from the ground-up and bears no resemblance to any other lens they have made. The 85 has more similarities with the Otus than the older Planar. In a nutshell: this lens is much much MUCH sharper than the older Planar. It also manages CA better. It however has slightly more vignetting.

A: Yes the lens does have hard stops and you can use the aperture ring manually if you so choose; however, there is also an option to de-click the aperture ring using a tiny tool that is included with the lens.
