The Plamp II from Wimberly is a 23" articulating Loc-Line arm designed to help photographers position objects and tools during a shoot. This arm has a load capacity of about 8 ounces, depending on the positioning of the arm, and will easily clamp to tripod legs or similar objects 0.9 to 1.4" in diameter. This holds it securely while the thumbscrew clip holds the object. The nylon clip is extremely versatile with foam jaw inserts for delicate materials, a holding notch that fits the outer rim of diffusers and reflectors, an arched recess that allows for the gripping of round objects. The thumbscrew activated clip is also very strong and precise as well as being able to open up to 1". Additionally, the Plamp II is lightweight at 7.9 ounces.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the load capacity of this clamp on the Plamp II system?

A: The load capacity is unknown but an estimated guess would be from 1-2 lbs.

Q: 2. Compatible with Oben GH-30C gimbal head?

A: The Wimberley Replacement Foot for Canon 400 f/2.8 IS I & II and 600 f/4 IS I & II Lenses is compatible with the Oben GH-30C Carbon Fiber Gimbal Head.

Q: 3. Will this work with the ground plamp?

A: Yes, it is compatible.

Q: 4. I have Mefoto C1350 Road trip tripod and Canon 100-400mm plus 1.4 Extender. Is my Tripod sturdy enough to use with the Wimberly Gimbal Head?

A: No. You need greater leg rigidity and a large mounting plate for the WH-200. Check out the Gitzo Systematic 3 Series for the appropriate tripod category. You may choose to accessorize with a leveling base but the WH-200 handles panning. A ballhead has, obviously, no role in this kind of rig.

Q: 5. I am looking for something to attach to the tripod leg and the other end to hold an umbrella. would this work? It would need to be the leg portion, my tripod does not have a center column . thx for any recommendations.

A: It may hold a lightweight umbrella but if you are shooting outside, wind may take its toll.

Q: 6. Are those standard 1/2inch loc-line elements?

A: Yes, they are standard loc-line elements

Q: 7. Can extension tubes be added to this ground plamp to raise the height?

A: No.

Q: 8. is there a way to attach Plamp II to L-plates or some other arca-compatible plates?

A: There is always a way...with some creative thinking and some modifications, you can accomplish this goal.

Q: 9. Anyone used this to hold test charts out into a scene?

A: Yes, will work well for test charts.

Q: 10. Some clamps are black and others grey. What's the difference and which one do we get here?

A: There is no difference but just the color. This one is black.

The Plamp II are very well constructed and is a blessing to have in the field that you are attempting to capture your photograph and mother nature is not helping. Very satisfy with the product.

This is the second plamp and I also bought the extension. I use them on indoor shoots to hold up the difussor, or reflector. Sometimes to hold the flower stem while I shoot the flower! They twist and bend in all directions.

This works great with small reflector disks. Or two for the bigger discs.
