Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this stand really 12.5 INCHES high like the description indicates or is it 12.5 FEET high?

A: The same issue came up in the movie "Spinal Tap" with the Stonehenge on stage props.

Q: 2. Any recommendations for affordable lav mics to use with this recorder for podcasting? I have some inexpensive lavs that work OK with my current recorder, but they use button batteries. I tried my more expensive Sennheiser lav and got no signal at all. I would prefer lavs that didn't require batteries.

A: Jason, are you looking for a wired or wireless Lav? I personally always try and use a wired Lav wherever possible ... high fidelity, clear quality audio is critical to most forms of broadcast digital media. If you're happy to go with a wired Lav I'd highly recommend the Shure MX150 Subminiature Lavalier Microphone (Wired XLR) .... you tuck into the collar/chest area of the talent, run the thin Shure cable out of the shirt and then attach a pro studio XLR cable and run it into the Zoom H6 XLR inputs ... really delivers stunning audio quality and works every time without having to worry about RF interference and batteries dying.I have a couple of them and can either record them as separate mono tracks in the H6 or mix them as a stereo pair.I purchased both my H6 and the two Shure MX 150s from B&H and have been totally satisfied with the set-up ... you pay a bit more for a pro Lav but the peace of mind and audio quality is well worth it ... and besides which B&H prices are always very competitive and if you have any issues, B&H service is second to none!Cheers,Neil

Q: 3. Is there a way to plug this into the wall and not use batteries?

A: Yes, the H6 can be powered via USB using either a computer or the Zoom AD-17 power adapter (sold separately).

Q: 4. Are the knobs aluminum or plastic?

A: Plastic knobs.

Q: 5. Is the included XY mic good enough for interviews(without a lav mic)?

A: The Zoom H6 in the stereo XY configuration will work for interviews. It will sound a bit roomy but it will work. I think you will have a better quality recording with 2 lav's one per person and take advantage of the XLR inputs and phantom power.

Q: 6. Does it have running timecode?

A: The Zoom H6 does not run time code. However, the Zoom F4 and the F8 are capable of running time code.

Q: 7. Is the 1/8 line out a balanced TRS connection?

A: The Line Out on the H6 features a stereo unbalanced TRS connection (AKA stereo mini jack).

Q: 8. can this go as carry-on luggage on flight?

A: This really depends on the air line you will be using. You will need to check the airlines requirements to see if this tote would fit. Based on the dimensions of this unit, it would be a hard fit for most overhead airplane compartments though.

Q: 9. Does it come with editing software? if not any recommendations?

A: Nope, it doesnt come with a software but it is a great tool for recording outside or in the studio. I've even used it as an audio interface and it works fine. Very good quality. The only thing I dont like is that it is advertised as 96khz but when you use it as an audio interface on a multitrack session the audio output is only 16khz.

Q: 10. Can I mount it on a boom pole?

A: with some rigging, yes. I use velcro.
