Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. When I mount this on my A6300 the image stabilization is not available. Is this by design? How do I get the in camera body stabilization to work with this lens?
A: Hello man! This camera and this lens is not estabilized .. but the range of lens is12mm and then is very open. For this is possible use in the hand without the image estabilized
Q: 2. Is this a Tamron design , just like the other Batis lenses? Is there any original Zeiss designs for the Batis series like in the Loxia series?
A: Theres a number of published tamron patents that are identical to the Batis 18,25 and 85. I am wondering if there is one that shows up that will be the same as this one.I think there is a licensing deal somewhere. These lenses are excellent regardless
Q: 3. Are you sure it is safe?
A: It is as safe as alcohol vapors.
Q: 4. How is the image stabilization disengaged when the camera has Image stabilization or camera attached to tripod?
A: When using a new E mount camera, the camera will detect the stabilization of a tripod and shut off the stabilization in the camera and the lens.
Q: 5. How many blades are in this, most list how many and if they're circular, this one doesn't?
A: There are 9 aperture blades in the ZEISS Batis lenses.
Q: 6. Is the Batis lens dependent on in camera distortion control unlike the Zeiss Milvus series? Looking at specs and online reviews it seems that the Batis series all have significant distortions that are automatically corrected in camera.
A: In some way, yes. Optical design are balance between several things. Distortion are easy to correct without much sacrifice, but can help other aberration within the limited budget and physical dimension.
Q: 7. do these contain fragrance or are the fragrance free?
A: These wipes are fragrance free, and are designed to work with all coated optical glass (camera lenses, binoculars, etc)
Q: 8. Are these safe to use on all coated optics, high end Canon EF Zoom lenses and on UV or other filters filters?
A: I agree with Derek G on this, these wipes are not very damp but do you need to? Normally, you do not have to remove dirt like spaghetti sticked on a plate! It's optic and to my experience, the dirt on a lens can be removed very easily. I will add that you might have to finish the cleaning with a very soft microfibre cloth to get a pristine optic.
Q: 9. Where are they made?
A: China
Q: 10. How well would this lens be expected to perform for shooting the milky way? I am currently shooting with the kit 18-35mm lens and am looking to take get better image quality when shooting at night than i can achieve with the kit lense. Is there a compatible Nex7 lens that would be recommended before this one? I don't mind if it would require an adapter, just looking for a good night photography lens with a reasonable price.
A: In this focal range and price range I would say this is the best you could opt for to give you improved image quality over your 18-35mm kit lens. Sony offers a 16mm f2.8 lens but it would not give you the same field of view as this lens would, and the optical quality of this Zeiss lens is much greater than the Sony 16mm option.
