Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is there a minimum Operating System requirement for use on Mac? On Apple's website, they say it's OSX 10.12 for this model.

A: LaCie lists a requirement of macOS 10.14 or higher for their external drives.

Q: 2. will this work with usb 2.0 ports or thunderbolt 2 pots?

A: The d2 Professional will work with USB 2.0. Thunderbolt 2 via a USB adapter has not been tested.

Q: 3. for the LaCie 8tb external HD, can you use, as replacement for the ac, the insignia multi - voltage ac adapter ?

A: As per the manufacture it would be ideal to only use the official LaCie 8TB d2 Professional USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C External Hard Drive's power cord.

Q: 4. Will I get a warning when the subscription is coming to an end so I can continue using the software continuously?

A: Yes - No doubt about that :)

Q: 5. Are there 2 separate outputs on this encoder?

A: This encoder has both an SDI and HDMI output.

Q: 6. Being an 18TB drive, should I expect it to be any less dependable than, say a 10TB drive?

A: Backblaze publishes a report on drives and failure rates. It would seem that across the brands age is more of an factor for failure than the size.

Q: 7. I am new to photo editing. What happens to your access of your photo library when your subscription expires. Do you have to renew to get access? I don't like the idea that you can loose your photos should my subscription expires. I would prefer to transfer my photos to an external hard rive like I do now with my Apple Photos application.

A: When you use a program like Lightroom, you will have to create initially what is referred to as a Catalog. The Catalog is only accessible through the program and that is what keeps all your edits and any other changes you have made to your photos. The actual location of the photos is determined by the user, generally on an external hard drive. If you don't renew, you wouldn't lose access to any of the photos on your external hard drive but you wouldn't be able to work on the catalog anymore. If you had any information in the cloud, you would need to make sure to get that offline if you do not already have it.

Q: 8. Will I still have control of my LR4.4 and PS 6 software I bought. I don't want to be part of the cloud or be connected to a cloud to update my software-makes me feel out of control of software I paid for. Do I get disks as before licensed as mine forever?

A: Installing the Creative Cloud Photography Plan will leave your existing software in tact, and you will have separate control over it. Creative Cloud is a subscription service. It is download only, with no disks available. When your subscription is over you would need to renew the subscription for continued use of the software. It is not a permanent license.

Q: 9. How many computers can you use this license for? I have a windows PC now but will soon get a mac in a few months and would like to be able to use it on both if possible, I own LR5 on disc and you are able to install it on 2 pcs simulataneously. Is this CC allow the same or not?

A: From the research I have done you can install it on as many computers as you like but you can only have two activated at any one time.

Q: 10. Anybody know how the cloud storage part of this work? thanks

A: I have not used it yet, but it allows your images to be stored so that you may edit them from any internet connected PC or tablet that the mobile version of Lightroom runs on. Lightroom Classic is the original, full-featured Lightroom that I use, and Lightroom (non Classic), which still lacks many features of Classic, is what stores the images to the cloud (I think). You get some cloud storage included in the subscription and can buy more. Basically, it allows you to do full editing on your tablet, and it syncs the edits across all of your devices automatically.
