The 58mm MCS Black Pro-Mist 1 Filter from Tiffen helps reduce highlight values while slightly lowering overall image contrast. Especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes in motion picture and video applications, this Magnetic Control System filter can also be used for fashion and beauty still imaging applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. Grade 1 filters provide more contrast and highlight reduction than Grade 1/2, but less than Grade 2 filters while still providing a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

This filter is part of Tiffen's Magnetic Control System (MCS) which allows filters to be swapped instantly rather than being slowly and tediously unscrewed and screwed in like conventional filters, saving valuable time when shooting in the moment. Each filter includes a magnetic mounting ring that allows it to quickly and securely attach to the front of a lens with no tools required. The separately available MCS step-up rings can adapt to the filter threads of almost any lens for added versatility. The filter set comes with a magnetic front cap to protect the filter and lens, plus a rear magnetic cap to protect the filter when not in use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does anyone else find the focusing ring a bit stiff? Mine runs smoothly, but not as smooth as my Nikkor AI-S lenses. I need to use two fingers and apply slight force to focus. I feel like it might be faulty.

A: The focusing ring would be stiff with the first few uses, but will loosen up over time.

Q: 2. So this is not grey market item ? Thank you, F.H.

A: Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II S Lens (Silver) is not grey market. It has 1 year warranty with Voigtlander in the USA.

Q: 3. I have a Nikon F100. Is the lens compatible ?.. Is it a manual focus or auto focus..

A: It is compatible. Manual focus only.

Q: 4. Can someone please tell me why this is marked as a 52mm thread when it is, in fact, a 58mm thread???

A: The filter ring is 52mm. There is an older version of this same lens that may have a larger filter ring. The current version is 52mm filter.

Q: 5. Can I this lens Voigtlander 58mm f1.4 be used with Fujifilm Xt-2? What adapter would I need?

A: Yes, the company is called Metabones and they make the best adapters for this type of thing.Be sure to purchase a Nikon F Mount adapter for the Fuji XT2 camera. They sell it here on B&H for a good price.

Q: 6. Work on Nikon D850

A: Yes, the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II S Lens (Black) would be compatible for use on the Nikon D850 DSLR Camera. As the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II S Lens is a non-CPU lens, it would only work in the [A] Aperture-priority and [M] Manual modes. You can go into the camera's Setup Menu, go to the Non-CPU Lens Data menu setting and enter the lens' focal length and maximum aperture. This would allow speedlight flashes with power zooms to set the zoom distance, allow the flash output level to be adjusted if the flash supports Auto Aperture mode, and to allow the lens' focal length and aperture to be listed in the image's EXIF data (with an asterisk beside it), while also improving the camera's built-in light meter performance.

Q: 7. I have the D800, I do a lot of video give me your thoughts?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II S Lens would be a good lens choice for video usage on the Nikon D800 DSLR camera. The lens has smooth focus and has a built-in aperture ring. The aperture ring is not de-clicked, so it would be best to only use one aperture per shot, as adjusting the aperture may results in seeing the small steps in-between each aperture setting instead of a smooth transition. Otherwise, it would be a good standard prime focal length lens for your video recording needs.

Q: 8. Can I focus this lens at max. Aperture f/1.4 when mounting it on the Nikon D750 or D810?

A: Yes, it is fully compatible with the D750 or D810.

Q: 9. I'm trying to mount the lens on the D850, but it gets stuck halfway through the rotation. It is normal?

A: Yes, when mounting new lens you will get a bit or tension when mounting the lens and this is normal play for new lens.

Q: 10. Will the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 work with a Nikon F2?

A: Yes, the Voigtlander Nokton 58mm f/1.4 SL II S Lens would be compatible for use with the Nikon F2 35mm Film SLR camera.
