The 77mm MCS Black Pro-Mist 1 Filter from Tiffen helps reduce highlight values while slightly lowering overall image contrast. Especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes in motion picture and video applications, this Magnetic Control System filter can also be used for fashion and beauty still imaging applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. Grade 1 filters provide more contrast and highlight reduction than Grade 1/2, but less than Grade 2 filters while still providing a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

This filter is part of Tiffen's Magnetic Control System (MCS) which allows filters to be swapped instantly rather than being slowly and tediously unscrewed and screwed in like conventional filters, saving valuable time when shooting in the moment. Each filter includes a magnetic mounting ring that allows it to quickly and securely attach to the front of a lens with no tools required. The separately available MCS step-up rings can adapt to the filter threads of almost any lens for added versatility. The filter set comes with a magnetic front cap to protect the filter and lens, plus a rear magnetic cap to protect the filter when not in use.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the outer diameter of the 77mm lens hood? Have lens caps which cover 80mm fronts.

A: 79mm outside-76mm inside

Q: 2. Is this compatible with Nikon 85mm 1.4G?

A: if the Nikon lens has 77mm screw in filter size it should work fine.

Q: 3. Will these work for Canon RF 50mm F1.2 lens?

A: Yes, it is compatible with the Canon 50mm 1.2.

Q: 4. Can you still use a lens cap while this lens hood is mounted on the lens?

A: Yes, but do so by capping the front of the hood, not the lens. Use a Nikon 82mm lens cap, B&H part B&H # NILC82. This will work very well because the hood has frontal filter threads, sized for 82mm filters.

Q: 5. Why is there a pic of a canon in this ad?

A: We imagine this image was used so that customers could get an idea of what the item looks like even if the camera was incorrect. We will pass this error notice on to the Web department. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we hope that this has not caused any confusion or inconvenience.

Q: 6. Will this hood (the short version) works with 16-55 APS-C zoom ? Thanks in advance

A: The Heliopan 77mm short lens hood will certainly fit your Canon 16-55 f/2.8 APS-C zoom, however you will get severe vignetting in the shorter focal lengths (from 16 to about 30mm). I would recommend the Sensei 77mm wide-angle metal lens hood instead (B&H #SELHMW77). Both hoods offer excellent protection for your expensive lens; aluminum is soft and thus absorbs a lot of force by deforming if the lens is accidentally bumped against a concrete wall or dropped.

Q: 7. Would this fit the Tamron 70-200mm F/2.8 USD VC SP?

A: I do not own this particular Tamron lens. The specs on the B&H website say that it takes a 77 mm filter, so this should work just fine. These screw-on hoods work well with circular polarizers or variable ND filters. I use mine on both my Canon 70-200 f4 and my 100-400 II. Hope this helps.

Q: 8. Does this hood stay in place (not rotate or fall off) of the Nikkor Z 24-120mm S f/4 lens?

A: The Sensei 77mm Quick Clip Lens Hood, being a two-piece design, would allow you to attach the threaded ring onto a lens with 77mm size filter threads and allow the hood to clip on and off. As it is a two-part clip-on hood, there is a possibility of the hood rotating or moving. If you would prefer a hood that will click onto a Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S Lens and not rotate or move, you can consider the Nikon HB-102 Lens Hood: https://bhpho.to/3jEUNgP.

Q: 9. Is this compatible with Pentax 645 SMC A 645 35mm f3.5 without causing vignetting? I believe the full frame 35mm equivalent focal length is about 21mm.

A: It should not vignett, however you can get the original lens hood as well Pentax PH-RBB82 Lens Hood B&H # PEPHRBB

Q: 10. Will this work for a NIkon D610?

A: absolutely. Heavy though. Needs a counter-weight that doesn't come with it.
