The Tiffen 82mm Warm Black Pro-Mist 2 Filter helps to reduce the value of the highlights while slightly lowering the overall contrast. This filter is especially useful for smoothing out and softening facial wrinkles and other blemishes. While designed for use with movies, this filter can also be used for fashion and beauty applications. Unlike a traditional diffusion or soft focus filter, Pro-Mist filters provide little loss of detail across the image. The 2 density provides a moderate amount of contrast and highlight reduction and allows for a soft, pastel-like quality of light.

This filter also combines the diffusion effect with an 812 warming filter for providing a general warmth to the image and for improving skin tones. This warming effect also helps to reduce blue sensitivity and for cutting through overly cool tones within the scene.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Could you recommend a lens cap for this filter please? The filter is 82mm but the front part of (I think) 94mm.

A: You may have success with the Kaiser 85mm Push-On (http://bhpho.to/2aJYEnM). People seem to have luck with other 82mm sized filters.

Q: 2. I'd like to add this filter to the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Is the 58mm filter the right size? Also is there a way to use a lens hood with the filter in place and if so what type?

A: The filter is the right size. The lens hood for the 18-55 is called the ew-63c made by Canon. There is a possibility that they could work together but i wouldn't bet on it. The hood would have to be applied before attaching the filter, and even if the filter could fit on with the lens hood attached it would be near impossible to tighten it on the filter ring. But the good news is that isn't really a problem. With modern coating on lenses, lens hoods, which prevent lens flare is practically not an issue unless you are shooting right in to the sun or bright light source. A lens hood wouldn't be able to prevent lens flare anyways when shooting into a bright light source. Basically, a lens hood will not have a large practical purpose so there's no reason to shoot with one on while using the neutral density filter.

Q: 3. Just gotten the 72mm Tiffin ND filters. Was not able to use my 72mm Nikon Lens cap & also wasn't able to attached the 72mm Sensei wide angle lens hood. Kindly please advice what size Nikon Lens cap & sensei lens hood should be use instead.

A: The Tiffen VND filters have limited front filter threads to avoid vignetting. You will not be able to use a traditional lens cap on this filter, we recommend sourcing a 3rd party slip on lens cap or removing the filter and placing it back in its protective pouch when not in use. The filter rings are larger and wider than a traditional filter (necessary in the construction of a VND), this prevents most lens hoods from being used as well.

Q: 4. Does anyone know if my Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 VR lens hood works with this filter attached?

A: I assume you mean the 77mm version of the variable ND... because this is the 82 mm which of course will not fit ... guess you can use a stepup ring? But it will work for sure if it fits you lens... pretty sure there is a 77mm version. The variable ND is ideal for shooting video where you are maintaining a shutter speed and F stop or T stop with a specific depth of field and you need to drop the amount of light coming in plus you cannot drop the ISO any further. That's what I use it for anyways.

Q: 5. This filter will fit my 67 mm lens but i also want to use this same filter for my 52 mm and 58 mm lens. Can i use step up rings from any brand?

A: Yes. Any brand will work and no need to buy expensive one.

Q: 6. since this filter use two polarizing filters to achieve blocking of the light, will this cause uneven distribution of the light, depending on the shooting angle?

A: As long as you are within the lens specifications you will not experience any uneven light distribution. I have never had a problem unless using at the dense or dark end of the limit and with a wide focal length on zoom or a wide angle lens

Q: 7. I want to get a bigger filter size so I can just step it down to any desired lens size. I just want to know if it will cause any vignette or distortion when stepping down?

A: When stepping down it will not.

Q: 8. Does this also work as a clear UV filter?

A: ND filter is used to reduce the light while UV filter is used to block the UV light

Q: 9. i dont know anything about NDs, so how does this compare to Genustech Eclipse ND Fader Filter

A: This is a variable ND which gives you 2 to 8 stops of light control. It won the Variable ND Shootout, see the review at the link below. It comes with an outstanding 10 year warranty and is Made in the USA.a href= https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nECdBiu5Rrw target= _blank https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nECdBiu5Rrw/a

Q: 10. My sony rx100 mark v has a 52mm filter holder, can this nd filter be used?

A: This filter will fit any camera lens with 52mm filter threads
