As noted in another response, the shoulder straps attach to the top of the laptop compartment, and the zipper is to the right side if you are wearing the backpack. The laptop compartment opens to the side and the zipper starts at the top and pulls downward to open the compartment. Most compartments have two zipper pulls for access, but the laptop compartment does not. If travelling by car, it is really nice to use this as the primary storage container to leave in the trunk & just pull what is needed at the time into a smaller bag. A: My laptop's dimensions are 10.5 wide x 15.25 long x 1 high and I cannot get it into the laptop compartment. The problem is that the zipper opening measures only 14.5 .

A: The laptop compartment (tightly accommodates my 15 Macbook Pro) sits far away from my back when wearing he backpack. Technically, there is a small zippered compartment (shown with the Ruggard logo on it) that is furthest away. This pack accommodates an amazing amount of gear (granted it can be heavy when loaded), but I love it.
