Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I need a simple recorder/player to run canned open and close segments for a live show. Will it play .mov/.mpeg/.mp4 recorded directly onto the SD card from Adobe PP without special encoding "wraps?" Thanks in advance!

A: The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD is capable of playing back supported files, such as .MOV, if the codecs are in ProRes, DNx, or H.264.

Q: 2. When having 8x Hyperdeck Studio Mini Recorders connected to the Extreme Control will I be able to do Instant sports replays live?

A: The Extreme Control has no special replay capabilities. You would need third party software or hardware for that.

Q: 3. Can you use the teleprompter feature and record simultaneously?

A: No, the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can only be operated in one mode at a time.

Q: 4. I wanted to get this for a instant replay device as well as recording. Does the hyperdeck extreme control have the same capabilities as the Roland P-20HD Video Instant Replayer?

A: Yes. Major difference is the hyper deck allows you to control up to eight decks at a time.

Q: 5. Could I hit record, then stop + play, and have all eight decks play back in sync?

A: There is the potential to have multiple decks play back and start clips at the same time with the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Extreme Control. The decks and controller must have the same reference, the media should be the same type, and the clips must be positioned at the same start point before playing.

Q: 6. Can it be used as a playback/highlights for sports for example?

A: Yes, because the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD can record the incoming HDMI feed and then play those recordings back, it can be used as a playback device for sports highlights.

Q: 7. Is this able to control BM Hyperdecks via ethernet or do you have to use the rs-422 control ports?

A: The Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Extreme Control is listed as using the RS-422 ports only.

Q: 8. can you save and playback individual clips with this device along with the recorder?

A: Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Extreme Control BH #BLHDEC can record up to 8K H.265 on CFast cards or 8K ProRes files via external disks. If you install the optional cache feature, media speed doesn’t matter so you can record 8K video to any Cfast card or even connect an external HDD dock via USB-C and record to an external hard drive! A variety of video and audio sources can be connected including decks, monitors, routers and cameras, or legacy broadcast decks via composite analog inputs, which is especially useful for archival workflows converting from tape to file

Q: 9. Can the search dial be used for editing in DaVinci resolve similar to the editor keyboards?

A: At this time the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD does not double as a DaVinci Resolve controller.

Q: 10. Can this device be used as a webcam ?

A: Since the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD has an HDMI output, you could technically feed that output into a capture card, and then select that feed as a web camera source. However, since the Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Shuttle HD doesn't have a camera, or any direct encoding support, it is not really made to be used as a web camera, and using it as such is not something we would recommend.
