Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. How prominent is/how often do you notice ?Onion Ring Bokeh??
A: I have never experienced onion ring bokeh with the Otus 85mm. I have used it professionally for portrait and event photography and recommend it without reservation. It is worth every penny!
Q: 2. Do I have the adjust the aperture using the aperture ring or can I adjust it using the controls on my camera?
A: Both options are available. The lens is fully compatible using your cameras auto functions. But can be used with manual aperture control for video applications by declicking the aperture ring with the provided key.
Q: 3. Can you let me know which way around the focus rotates on the Otus? Same as the regular Nikon lenses or the same way as the Canon version. Thanks
A: The Nikon F version rotates the same way as Nikon lenses (i.e. the scale reads from infinity on the left to MFD on the right) and the Canon EF version rotates the same way as Canon lenses (i.e. the scale reads from MFD on the left to infinity on the right).
Q: 4. How would this f2/M look in a medium shot during an interview in comparison to the f/1.4 ZE?
A: This is a difficult question to answer, since some of the differences are subjective. If judging contrast and sharpness, you can view the MTF charts in the technical data sheets located at a href= http://zeiss.com/photo. target= _blank zeiss.com/photo./a This will allow you to compare how the Milvus 2/50M appears at wide open aperture to the new Milvus 1.4/50. Aside from this, the main differences are in the DOF and out of focus qualities. In this case, neither is better than the other, it is a matter of your own tastes and needs.
Q: 5. Would it work with aparture priority, automatic ISO and shutter priority modes of Canon 5DSR? Also, does this camera correct for distortion and fringing as it does for Canon lenses?
A: Aperture Priority - Yes. Aperture is controlled in the lens by the camera body.Shutter Priority - Yes. Shutter speed is wholly a camera body function and is not affected by choice of lens.Automatic ISO - Yes. ISO is wholly a camera body function and is not affected by choice of lens. The in-camera lens correction for in-camera JPEG images only works with Canon lenses.
Q: 6. What are the dimensions of this lens with the hood? I want to purchase a lens case for it, and all I can find are the lens dimensions w/out the hood.
A: The lens shade is reversible for storage, so you can use the dimensions that 'include lens caps' which are listed on the data sheet at: a href= http://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/Photography/new/pdf/en/downloadcenter/datasheets_milvus/milvus1485.pdf. target= _blank http://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/Photography/new/pdf/en/downloadcenter/datasheets_milvus/milvus1485.pdf./a
Q: 7. What is the differance between Distagon Optical Design and Planar Optical Design in Zeiss Lenses ?
A: The different names designate different optical schemes. The Planar design is used in Normal to Telephoto focal length lenses. The Distagon is a more complex designed and is used Wide Angle lenses.
Q: 8. Certainly the Macro range is great but how does it compare to standard lenses when you are doing landscapes or anything focused farther away?
A: The ZEISS Milvus 2/50M uses a floating lens element design that optimizes performance from close focus through infinity. As a result, the lens serves a dual purpose as either a close-up macro lens, or a general purpose standard lens. Q: 9. Hello. I have a question about the warranty on this Zeiss Milvus lens. Does it come with international warranty? (I live in Australia.)
A: The warranty for this lens is USA only, however you have the option to add additional coverage through a company called Square Trade, which provides international coverage. More information regarding the coverage, terms and conditions of the Square Trade protection plans can be found at the following link: http://bhpho.to/1fMHaTB
Q: 10. I have Otus 55...will this lens be equal/better/worse?
A: The ZEISS Milvus 50mm f/2M ZE Macro Lens for Canon EF is a macro lens and the ZEISS Otus 55mm f/1.4 ZE Lens for Canon EF is not. Optically the 55mm is a higher level line and is sharper.
